Did Marvin Hagler took a dive againsv Ray Leonard?

At least in the mexican news papers and the mexican commentators saw that. I saw the fight with the mexican commentators. And they were saying Hagler was not putting any power on his punches against Leonard just connecting them but without any power. Also the mexican sports news paper El esto. Said was a joke. Hagler was never agressive and never put power on his punches. Hagler was paid 12 million dollars and Leonard 11 million dollars. I believe if they would had fought in 1982 Hagler would had Ko Leonard. And also in the 15 rounds distance.

In answer to your question, no.

Come on, it's always been, to me, a cut and dry case of stubborn, headstrong bull of a guy getting conned into playing along with the joker.
As a Hagler guy, I prefer to believe that he got suckered into Leonard's mind trickery, and was only beaten because his management objected to an English judge.
Nah, keep your theory to yourself, it don't do me no good.
Hagler was in tears at the post fight presser, no way he threw that fight. (Intentionally, I mean. He did throw the fight away, taking nothing away from Leonard, by the way).

Hagler was a ageing and a bit worn out. You can see him being inane to really sustain the pressure in the late rounds. He was ripe for retirement too.

Agreed, but I think the early rounds he threw away were the biggest factor in that fight.

marvin did not only want to win, but he wanted
to win impressively and he figured that would
mean he boxes and beat ray in his own game.

but i totally understand the confusion. marvin
followed leonard, but he didn't attack as the
pit bull he actually was.

that was the single most stupid fight plan in
the history of boxing. how on earth could he
think that ray would be irritated by that?

i think his corner is to blame. no way roach
or stewart would have allowed him to do that.
it's funny that the commentator immediately
shows his disbelief.

Did Marvin Hagler took a dive against Ray Leonard?

No.

Several folks connected with the business say Hagler made a "Gentleman's Agreement" to box southpaw for the first three rounds as a concession to get Leonard to agree to the fight. This is the only explanation as to why he boxed the first few from the opposite side and also would explain his extreme disdain about Leonard's "winning" the fight. No way Hagler "threw" the fight as he had no financial motivation to do so and no amount of money would've caused him to put aside his pride anyways. I can see him making the southpaw concession out of a lack of respect for SRL's ability to last the other nine and to get the apparently "chicken" Leonard to agree to step between the ropes. Who knows in the end?

Not sure where you get your info from but Hagler was a lefty, so I dont see why he would have had to agree to box southpaw when thats what he already was?

He just had a bad day and got beat, no mystery, no concessions.

I think we know what Dart meant to say....he just said it sideways lol.

This is one of the strangest questions ever posed here. This fight was close. Some saw Marvin as the winner. What sort of dive, is so close that the outcome is ambiguous?

Maybe he was considering it during the entire time of the fight? And with the ebb and flow of the night he kept changing his mind? lol.

Oh well, it's the stranger things that end up being entertaining to some of us.

I understand the sentiment. Hagler seemed to hold back. And his punches seemed devoid of snap.

If you look at Hagler's reign he defended against aggressive punchers for the most part. The one guy who boxed him, Duran, made him look, not ordinary, but not a monster. People have theories about that one too...Hagler gave him too much respect.

I don't think so.

I think Hagler always struggled with good boxers. Monroe, Watts, Finnegan... He forced Minter and Hearns to neglect their strengths and engage in punch outs.

Millions of dollars . His life maybe . Who knows . Not saying I agree that he threw it just saying that he could've had a lot to gain.

He does seemed to be doing very well for himself as opposed to Hearns and Duran. Leonard without all his extra ventures is why he's still doing good. Not saying I believe Hagler did throw the fight because I don't, but just saying the argument for it.

The fight was too close and he would've got the same money win or lose. If they had a mega buck rematch then maybe the theory holds more weight but Hagler never fought again and didn't gain anything from that loss.

I'm not talking about money from the fight. I'm talking about a payoff from the mob. Like take this money and lose because we are betting against you. Or else...

I enjoy posting negative comments but canost a positive one here; Marvin didn't throw the bout, no way - he underestimated Leonard, boxed to a poor plan and did not work to his strengths. I imagine there's aart of him that regrets that bout once a week - like we all regret some things that messed things up.

I'm not trying to say anything . I was just pointing out what he could've gained from taking a dive.
