ARTHURS BRITISH TITLE CRACK
Posted: 01 Jun 2004, 15:28
Its been announced today that Arthurs next fight will be for the vacant british title vacated by Gomez. Now being from Edinburgh Im a fan of Arthur but what the fornicate has he done to warrant a pop at this?
Since when did a 2 minute ko against a guy obviously in ove rhis head warrent qualification for a pop at the British title? its a joke
Since being beaten by Gomez last Ocober he has fought one round against Michael Kizza! No doubt the choice of opponent will be interesting. Everyone knows he should fight Craig Docherty and everyone wants to see it, but given Arthurs lack of action since last October in comparison to Dochertys I cant see this happening.
Looking t the top ten super feathers right now other than Docherty id like to see him have a go at Carl Johannesson. Im sure this would be a tear up, both similar types of fighters but i cant honestly see Arthurs camp risking him with anyone who may prove troublesome given the Gomez result. Johanneson has been very active, fighting regularly and winning and would jump at this, therefore he wont get it!
Following Gomez the jury is still out on Arthur and both he and Warren will know full well that another big time defeat will leave alex with very few routes left to go. So no doubt itll be another safe option bout.
Alex irons out trip
CAPITAL super-featherweight ace Alex Arthur plans to head to Phoenix, Arizona, next week to share a training camp with former world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, writes BRIAN DONALD.
‘Iron Mike’ is currently preparing for his next fight under the guidance of Arthur’s American coach Freddie Roach.
Arthur confirmed: "Freddie has told me that certain problems had been ironed out regarding accommodation and that I could come to his training camp in Phoenix which I would share with Mike, whom I met in Glasgow in June 2000."
Arthur, meanwhile, revealed his next fight - due to be at Meadowbank next month - will be for the now-vacant British title he lost to Michael Gomez in October last year.
