Frank Bruno v Herbie Hide

Here's a nice little all British Heavyweight clash that could have happened but didnt due the narrow overlap in their careers. Herbie Hide v Frank Bruno two big personalities who could both bang. Who have you got?

Massive speed advantage to Hide. If he'd fought really smart he could have outboxed Bruno and taken a decision or probably late stoppage. Big ask though!

Hide would have been manhandled by Bruno and after running out of gas would be stopped in the middle rounds.

That would be a danger. You could see against Bowe it didn't take a great punch to mess up Hide, just a good half-contact. Hide would have had to be fit to keep dancing.

Bruno's power, strength and aggression for me as well....Frank probably in or around 8-9 rounds.
It would take a wee bit longer for Frank, he might get messed around early on, but those clubbing shots will tell.
Hide had that great speed but poor discipline outside the ring, some overly-brave tactics against the truly big men he faced and just a basic lack of size would tell.
Could see Frank being pumped for this one as well and fancying the job....HH probably having made the mistake of having said or done something spiteful in the build-up.

Had Bruno not retired in 1996 with retina problems after teh Tyson fight... he could have been a show-in contender for Hides WBO title the following year.
I would pick Bruno to win this fight.... Hide struggled with powerful guys... even when a unmotivated & disinterested Ridick Bowe tapped Herbie with punches that didn't look like KO finishers... Herbie was getting knocked down and down.
Bruno was a very powerful guy.... he only ever lost to world champions, something overlooked when people poke fun at him
And if Joseph Chingagua could spark out Hide ... you sure bet Frank could!

Frank all the way for me. When you look at Frank's early fights you can see he was well schooled. He had a great jab. When he became too musclebound I felt he was more limited and tended to rely on brute strength and some 'naughty tactics'. He was very well and carefully managed fighter and he was adored by the British public and that counts for a lot.
Anyway I see him stopping Hide in 4 - 7 rounds.

I think Frank Bruno is more proven at the world class level than Hide was, so I'll give him the edge.. But this sure would have been a fight fan's fight.

Frank wasn't at Bowe's level for applied aggression, and I can see Hide winning some early rounds, but it would have to be the worst Bruno and the best Hide for Herbie to stand a chance. I'm with the consensus; Frank any time after the 6th. Sooner if he happens to catch him right.

Lol have to laugh at the opinion hide outboard frankie.it would be 3-4 rounds and hide would be floored thrice

Bruno for me.
Hide is much much faster & he 'might' actually hit harder than Bruno, amazingly, but Bruno had a better chin than Hide & was much more physically strong.
I can see Hide peppering Bruno & marking him up early, but I think Bruno would eventually keep Hide on the end of his jab & take him out mid rounds.

I think big Frank was underestimated. A genuine top 10 heavyweight in any era imo. Could have been a lot better if more modern sports science methods used instead of the over reliance on weight and strength training.
Banged out Hide without too much bother.

Bruno is a level above. Hide gets stopped before the 8th, and likely before the 6th.
