Following in the footsteps of Hamed, Jones, Nelson, Witter and Woods, Kell Brook became Sheffield's sixth world champion since 1995 - and the first to win it overseas.

(Without the WBU, WBF and IBO) - in this period, how does it compare with other cities?

Off the top of my head I can think of Hatton and Thompson for Manchester and Quigg will be debated.

London has Benn, Bruno, Lewis, Haye and Barker.

I'm bound to have missed some and there are some good historians on here.

Khan would be under Greater Manchester :-)

Over a similar period, Cardiff/South Wales have had Robinson, Calzaghe, Rees, Enzo & Cleverly. Admittedly it's more of a region rather than a specific city, but probably covers roughly the same area as Sheffield.

Sorry just checked - he boxed for 'interim' WBO light Middle and got done by Jason Mathews. I thought he had actually won a vacant title at some point.....

I've never thought as Khan as a Manchester boxer.

Doncaster is 20 minutes from Sheffield but we'd never consider Jamie McDonnell as a Sheffield lad.

We in Doncaster like it that way too

I was going on the city of Sheffield. Sheffield-Manchester is actually closer than Cardiff-Swansea.

Jason Matthews briefly held the WBO title too, I think he was awarded it outright after winning the interim title against Rhodes.

Burns, Harrison and Weir from Glasgow.

Surprisingly, despite all the talk of it being the home of British boxing, great fight city, etc, etc, Liverpool hasn't produced a world champion in the last 20 years and only 2 at any stage, John Conteh and Paul Hodkinson.

Both moved to Sheffield as soon as they were old enough!

Graham was a huge celebrity in Sheffield, probably more popular than any of the footballers in the 80's.
