Rudy Markussen, Underrated Scandinavian

With an incredible record of 38 wins (25 by KO), 3 losses, Rudy also got the history to back it up. One of his three losses was a robbery, back when he was still in his prime, when Sven Ottke got the decision against him. At that time, Markussen should have been the undefeated IBF smw champion of the world, but he was robbed of it. The two other losses came after he lost his motivation to box. This guy could potentialle have changed super middle weight history a lot if he had just used his prime better instead of mentally quitting the game after getting robbed against Ottke. I could see him beating a guy like Bika, Abraham and Dirrell anyday, but not the absolute elite.

Markussen was ahead on the scorecards, but Magee hit him with a very lucky punch in the 5th. Markussen was a shell of his former self in this fight, sadly.

markussen against kessler would have been interesting. I think kessler at his best would have been too good though.

I guess we need to have a thread about how underrated Brian Magee is too.

Mads Larsen was similar. I thought they were all high end Euro Champ level. I doubt either would have lasted long as champ.

Mads Larsen also got robbed against Ottke. Honestly, I think if Larsen and Markussen hadn't been fvckd over by Germany, they both could have continued as great champs and a fight between them would have been awesome.

Imagine if a talent like Rudy had been American, everyone would go wild about him. But because he's European (half Swedish, half Russian, born in Denmark), people don't give him the respect he deserves.

problem with this Denmark fighters is that they never go outside their country. I dont say he is not good, but Kessler will end him in 4 rounds IMO. Still there is some good boxers in Denmark - Nielsen, Ceylan.

Kessler would beat Rudy, yes. So would Froch and Ward. But besides Ward, Kessler, Calzaghe, Froch, maybe Andre Dirrell, I can't imagine any super middleweights from the last 10 years who would stand a chance against a motivated prime Markussen.

Oh man, SMW was, and still is very talented division, besides fighters that you named is here another Dirrell, Bika, Groves, Degale, Abraham, Stieglitz, Taylor, Oosthuizen, Pascal, Stevenson, Bute, Miranda, Pavlik, Fonfara and others.

Pascal vs. Markussen would be a good fight, but honestly, he would KO the rest of the guys you mentioned.

Lol kasper... You are way off here. Larsen was a great talent, great fighter but got screwed, first by the ottke people, ( who didnt... But larsen got robbed big time i know ). Larsen then got screwed by his promotoer whomlater screwed kessler. Larsen tried a few comebacks after the many years of legal battles was over.
Maybe a larsen at his best could pose tiny a threat to kessler. Rudy.... Never ever. Great punch, even greater guy, but never had the psych to fight at the top. In every bigger fight, entering the ring rudy would look like a deer caught in the headlights.

Yes, Americans would have gone absolutely crazy over a top 20 super middleweight whose best win was a decision over future HOFer Danilo "Split Decision" Haussler. F$ck@ng biased Americans!

I don't know that much about Danish boxing, but from what I have seen, Markussen and Larsen would be a great fight. If just they hadn't been fucked over all the time... As for your hating on Rudy Markussen, come on. The guy is tall, got a monster punch, an iron jaw and while he is no Ward, he certainly got skills enough to outmaneuver an average non-elite boxer. In his prime, Markussen could very well have been the best boxer in all of Europe, things just went wrong with him getting robbed and losing motivation...

Keep in mind that he got robbed against Ottke and was much past it against Magee, but still dominated until getting stopped by a lucky punch in the fifth round.

His resume shows that he was a far better boxer than many think. His record could have been 60-0 today, if not for the Ottke robbery ruining his spirit. He tried to fight the best possible opponents available all the time.

Rudy Markussen is planning a big return and he is in better shape than ever, he got his mind back on boxing, according to European sources. I think we may see the landscape change, if Rudy manages to get in top shape, he is not that old, he just lost his heart for boxing.
I could see him beating Anthony Dirrell if he gets back to 80% of what he used to be.

That's pure speculation with ZERO credibility to it.
Markussen is not the only person to beat Ottke then not get the decision. That's not even noteworthy he's just one of many.
If his resume came remotely close to saying he was "far better boxer than many think" you would not be using an Ottke decision to state your case but since his resume is very weak that's all you've got.
Besides trying to claim Magee's legitimate win over Markussen was just good luck
I can imagine pretty any super middleweight from the past ten years beating Markussen.........if the Magee's of the boxing world could do it so could the Bika's and Abraham's.

He was a talent for sure : he could definitely crack a bit. I remember him flooring Danilo Hausler several times in their fight.
