He probably won't need to. I don't see Cornish lasting past the halfway stage with Lewison.

Lewison by early stoppage pretty much the first time he connects.

Lewison is clearly the favourite and should win but the longer it goes the better chance Cornish has as he will almost certainly be a different league fitness wise. Lewison will probably come in heavy and may punch himself out after three or four rounds.

Agreed but I cannot see Cornish being able to take the pressure Lewison will undoubtedly put on him.

Think this depends hugely on how Cornish handles pressure and how much of a chin he has. Don't think ether have been tested yet so it's a real unknown. We know what Lewison brings, but facing a long list of journeymen hasnt prepared Cornish for this, doesnt mean he cant though.

So yes, reading my above comment....I have no idea how this works out....

However having watched Towers, Dallas and various other extra tall heavies they have a tendency to gas and fall apart upon the first time they get a puncher who is willing to come at them and also willing to get inside. Could see this going the same way. Easy to fight 8 rounds against someone standing like a punchbag in front oif you, takes a lot more gas to handle someone coming right at you.

If so I can imagine the odds on Lewison being good value.

I don't know where people get the idea that Cornish has a weak chin ?? I've seen almost all his fights live and think he's predictable and doesn't punch his weight but he's coming on slowly, is brave enough, has a good jab ,not bad defensively, and is always in very good condition. His management have always maintained that he had a short amateur career and needed to learn 'on the job'. I think I'm right in saying he was getting good sparring in.

At the moment it would be a major achievement to win the British title somewhere down the line, but it's not impossible. Unless Lewison is fit and very well prepared , he'll be outpointed or rescued late on.

This fight will tell us exactly where Gary is at in his career at the moment, if he is improving and if he can in fact challenge for the British title in the next couple of years. Ian Lewison is quite well respected in British boxing circles as a good boxer that can punch, Imo for Gary it isn't even all about winning or losing this fight:

1. The fight is close where Gary gets hit hard and comes through and either wins/loses on points: This would tell us he is improving and can mix it with a big puncher, it would give him confidence in his own ability/chin etc and Tommy Gilmour would know he can take some risks with him in the future.
2. Gary ko's Lewison early. This would show us that Gary has power to trouble a good level of opposition but unless Gary was hit first people will still question his chin/stamina/ability
3 Gary ko's/stops Lewison late. This would answer most of the questions about Gary and would show he is keeping his power late in the fight.

There is only one way that the fight ends that would really worry me about Gary and that would be if Ian Lewison totally dominates him and KO's him with Gary not being able to do any good work.

I hope Gary gets the win and it is defo a step up for him but I've known him since his amateur days and he is a nice guy, works hard an dhe deserves this chance to put himself in line for a big title fight!!

Agreed, this is exactly the type of opponent Cornish needs right now.
I just hope the soft fights he has had with the Latvians etc prior to this don't harm him in this fight & he starts too slow and gets outgunned or outworked.
Either way we'll know a lot more about Gary after this fight. Looking forward to it.

we will learn more about Lewison too my guess is he will come in unfit throw the kitchen sink at Cornish for three rounds and then gas if Cornish is still standing. Hopefully lewison wins and goes on to bigger fights which motivate him enough to train properly.

No TV or live streams as far as I know!! Not sure if they are recording themselves and putting up later

great fight. Cornish's team deserve credit for being able to make the lewsion switch after sexton pulled out.

this is a perfect matchup of unbeaten untested versus bona fide gatekeeper

Lewison has some poor performances and is relatively inactive for a newcomer but has certainly shown some real potential in recent fights

Cornish at this stage is just an 0.

we only have the Butlin fight to go on.

im going to this on Sat , not been to pro show in a while due to lack of Personal intrest in the match ups but this one has a few fights that should be decent , Carslaw fight , Cornish and the Craig Kelly Fights should all be entertaining.

Lewison is out, Larry Olubawino replaces him.

Gutted for Gary,that was a great match up,Olubamiwu's a good replacement,haven't been impressed with Larry since McDermott beat him,he's still dangerous but i reckon Cornish will stay out the way early the KO Larry when he gasses

Hope the Lewison fight still happens
