This didn't happen as OFTEN years ago as during the past few years.

Wladimir Klitschko: backed out TWICE from fights with Dereck Chisora, now has postponed his Sep 6 fight with Kubrat Pulev

Dereck Chisora: backed out a week before his scheduled fight with Tyson Fury

Tyson Fury: pulled out the morning of the his scheduled fight with Alexander Ustinov, without claiming an injury, said he had to visit his uncle who had been in hospital for some time

and the WORST for backing out of fights, winner of the Duck Award:

David Haye: Backed out of a HBO Wladimir Klitschko fight in June 2009, pulled out of a HBO Vitali Klitschko fight in August 2009, backed out of a fight with Manuel Charr in 2013, and pulled out with short notice TWICE for PPV fights with Tyson Fury later in 2013.

Everyone is scared of everyone else, like a room full of timid pussywhipped husbands obviously. Maybe too much estrogen in mens bodies these days.

Heavyweights probably just get injured more in general. Most of the fighters mentioned in this thread have actually taken numerous admirable challenges throughout their careers. A few of them probably just don't know how to train without getting injured.

I think it is a testament to how much of a rough job this sport does to the boxer's bodies. No fight usually means no payday for some of these guys. It's a hard damn sport... they are dying in bouts and I would not want to go in against someone who could kill me when I'm struggling with a nagging injury...
