I give credit for Flintoffs hard work and guts to get in the ring but his performance was almost the worst I have ever seen in a pro ring. living proof that athleticism in one sport doesn't necessarily translate to another.

We don't really know how good or bad Flintoff could have been. He trained for a few months and then made his debut in front of a huge crowd at the MEN. Most novice amateurs look a mess their first time out and most of them have had more time in the gym than Flintoff. I think he did okay all things considered.

The most interesting thing about the Flintoff fight IMO was the guy who he beat (Richard Dawson) went on to win a six round decision over a 16-3 fighter.

Make of that what you will

Flintoff may not have had a lot of time to prepare but he did have elite help. As for Dawson did he really lose to Flintoff the scoring was a bit dodgy and Dawson looked like he wasn't trying to do much and he still knocked Flintoff over. Point taken about flintoffs total lack of experience though he would have got better but had no potential to be a good fighter from what I saw.

Dawson barely threw a punch; landed 1 shot by accident which immediately scored a knockdown. Dawson then stood in the corner for about a minute after the KD to allow Flintoff time to get his senses back together.

It was so obviously a fix that it was ridiculous

yeah dawson is now 5 and 2 as a pro he will have almost certainly received his biggest pay day against Flintoff and came to lose.

I also believe the fight was fixed but that doesn't make my earlier point any more or less valid.

Just checked his record and his only other loss was a split decision to a guy he has actually beat before.

Definitely a fix, was a bit of a joke all round Vassel v Heffron (which was a a highly anticipated fight at the time) playing second fiddle to that!

I think it's fairly clear why Dawson beat a 16-3 opponent but lost to Flintoff, who was predictably dreadful given his lack of experience. I don't understand how any reasonable poster here could believe that it was a legitimate fight, though apparently some in the thread below did.

The 'fight" was a disgrace and a definate fix- I still can't understand why Barry McGuigan would get involved in something like that which made a mockery of the sport (unless it was for the £ )

Didn't they ring the bell ind the last round early when Freddie was blowing out of his arse as well?!

He played in the T20 final on Saturday and took a wicket with his first ball and hit a couple of sixes with the bat at the end, played well all things considered (apart from bowling a beamer that got hit for 6).
