Both in their primes I'd have to say that Olivares had far more craft and set his power shots up better. There's no denying that Zamora was a terrible hitter; I've watched him v Pedroza and he whacked with both hands at range and in close. Olivares was really a special fighter though, didn't he go 49-0 with 48 KO's?
It would be a PPV bout and Olivares inside 6 for me.

This. Zamora could one-shot virtually anyone he could hit, but so could Ruben & he was by far the more talented.
But fvck me I'd give someone's left gonad/ovary to see it.
& I think he went 60-0-1 or something stupid (without looking, he had an early-career draw I know that) along those lines, with something utterly ridiculous like 55 early, before the cut-eye stoppage to Chucho Castillo...

Zamora pre Zarate knock him out early.Zamora after Zarate loss by KO early

I don't think the Zarate loss took a lot out of Zamora and I don't think a bout between Zamora and Olivares would be based solely on power. Olivares was a master jabber when he felt the need and would have drawn Alfonso's sting.

Alfonso also had a solid jab.

I know Zamora was a class boxer, he was an Olympic medalist wasn't he? I'm not diminishing him, I just think that at their respective peaks Olivares would have beaten him. I remember a past his peak Olivares beating Arguello to the jab time again. It would have been some bout, the crowd would have been electric and I'd have not dared gone to the toilet in case the fight ended.

A couple of party boys.
Z Boy vs. El Puas.
Olivares was certainly a cut above Zamora. Which of the two punched harder is anybody's guess, but when Zarate began digging to his stablemate's body during their unforgettable 1977 war, Zamora began looking for the exits.
I question his toughness under fire, and the more ring savvy Olivares would bring plenty of that.
Look for Senor KO to live up to his nickname and get Zamora out by round 7.

With lots of punching power, ability and very underrated boxing ability, Ruben Olivares was one of the greatest bantamweights ever and would be big favorite over Alfonso Zamora.
