It looks like the candidates are Kirkland, Clottey, and Andrade. I honestly think Andrade's name is being thrown in to make people think he is not avoiding him, but in reality will not fight him. Style wise it wouldn't go well for Canelo imo.

Kirkland has a good record, is a good puncher, but is definitely flawed, and stops a lot of punches with his face.

Clottey is 36, has been inactive the last few years, and is the one that I think Canelo will choose, being the safest opponent of the three.

Maybe Canelo vs Clottey is the non-PPV fight they have been hinting at?

I was reading something the other day suggesting Saul maybe going to HBO to line up the Miguel Cotto fight. Apparently Oscar is trying to repair the GBP/HBO relationship.

Of the guys listed I'd hope James gets the call. Demetrius ain't beating Erislandy & like it or not Saul was close with Erislandy so I think Demetrius is like Diet Erislandy in comparison so I'd never say Demetrius would be THAT much of a problem for Saul. Clottey shouldn't even be in this discussion.

I think Andrade would give Canelo all he wants, being 2 or 3 inches taller than Lara, and is arguably a bit better technician over-all. He wouldn't run like Lara did either. Right now I would rank him somewhere in between Trout and Lara though, until he proves otherwise.

Kirkland could do well if he gets warmed up properly and doesn't get KO'd early. Clottey? If he fights him it won't sell at all, and I will be surprised.

Saul is one of the biggest draws in boxing so it'll sell if he fought the cowardly lion from the Wizard of Oz. Its not a fight they should take though cuz its a bs fight.

If it's Clottey forget about any kind of discussion, many of us still remember the non event he had with Pacquiao.

Put Alvarez in there with James Kirkland for however long it lasts.

Agree here. Diet Lara is a proper description. Andrade doesn't have Lara's skills and he is easier to hit, plus there are questions surrounding his chin.

A Kirkland fight would be the most fun, but I have no problem with Clottey being the choice. They don't want to risk ruining a fight with Cotto. However I think Clottey will pose problems for Alvarez. He didn't look over-the-hill against Mundine.

True but Mundine himself is over-the-hill.

Can't say I followed Mundine's career enough to know, though I watched him retire a serviceable Mosley. I have followed Clottey's career and I think he has it. If he shows up with his A-game, I think he could make it interesting. Clottey has a lot of tools at his disposal and he is as tough as nails.

I can't understand why Canelo didn't get better ppv #s in his last 2 fights. I thought he would get 500k or so. I'm not so sure now if he will be the big draw in boxing after Floyd. Once Floyd had fought Oscar , I recall all his fights drawing well on ppv.

I read that Canelo wanted to end the year as world champion, so the logical choice would be Andrade. Why not take the belt from the inexperienced Andrade?

Well Floyd won to. I'm sure that helped. I think Saul did fine for these last couple ppv's as the A side. Believe he did 300k or so iirc & thats great. 300k should put Saul in 4th place right now worst case (1, Floyd, 2, Manny, 3, Miguel). Plus I believe Floyd, Oscar & Manny all did 300k or less in their first ppv's as the A side so Saul will likely grow his ppv audience as he does more & more ppv's.

I'd like to see Kirkland; that would be a bout worth seeing.

Im hearing that canelo will fight clottey, Man I REALLY hope that this is wrong.

Kirkland would be the fan friendly choice, but Andrade has the gold at the moment.
Can't see it being Clottey, but you never know....
All are winnable fights though

I get the part about Kirkland being a big puncher against some guys, but to me the guy is seriously flawed. He is a slow starter, and if Ishida can KO him right away, I am sure Canelo can too.
I would much rather see Canelo tested against someone like Andrade. Andrade at least brings an advantage of reach, 4 or 5 inch height advantage, solid boxing ability, being a south paw, and has the only belt possible for Canelo to get this year.

Clottey is a terrible fight...I'm guessing he's just wasting time waiting for a Cotto fight.
