The all time rivalry, really a feud in Australian boxing was the series of fights in the 1930s and early 1940s between Fred Henneberry and Ron Richards.

They fought each other a total of 9 times. Ron Richards won 6 of the fights - 5 by disqualification and 1 by knockout. Fred Henneberry won the other 3 - 2 on points and the other by knockout.

I miss counted, Ron Richards and Fred Henneberry fought a total of 10 times. This missing one was a draw.

The first disqualification was in their 2nd bout, when Fred was disqualified in the 13th round.

Their feud flared in their 5th fight on 25th August 1934, when in the 4th, Fred hit Ron with a low blow and was cautioned. In a fury Fred, let go another low blow and was disqualified.

All their bouts from then on were grudge matches. Their eighth fight on 26th February 1940 was a classic of its era. Fred was behind on points and referee Wallis cautioned him for butting. Fred went beserk in the 11th, butted again and got disqualified.

Bout number 9 on 16th December 1940 also ended in the disqualification of Fred in the 12th round due to another head butt. This one was also a thriller.

In their last meeting on 17th November 1941, Fred butted again and was disqualified in the 13th and hung up his gloves for good. After this final fight, the enmity between Richards and Henneberry ended with Fred describing Ron as a great fighter and he later attended Ron's funeral in 1967.
