Of course it matters how it's seeded and what the matchups are.
Today, I'll go with Byrd to squeak it out.
He may have trouble with the size of Cooney (lets not even discuss the "Mummy" Valuev) but he's the most skilled guy in the group.

Cmon...the "Marciano Anomaly" must be invoked here.

If he never lost, he can't lose. Joe Mesi...

I'd hope that lazy Tua didn't show up and he managed to win the whole mess. Him or Tommy Morrison. Chris Byrd could slip and spoil his way to victory too. The winner gets acknowledged as Top 5 ATG.

They all had their share of unimpressive performances and most had meltdowns. Each to see any of them losing.
At their best, I would pick Cooney. If he fought like he did against Holmes he would take any of these guys.

All of these guys had some ability as well severe limitations. Hard to see one guy looking good throughout the tournament, but someone has to win it.

Luck would have a lot to do with this. Since most of these guys were inconsistent, a lot would depend on how well a fighter's opponent would perform on that particular day.
If this tournament 5 times, it's doubtful anyone would win it more than twice.
Since there are 10 guys, there has to be byes. A fighter who doesn't have to fight in the first round of the tournament would have a serious advantage.

I'm starting to think so as well. I'd say the likely winner is between Gerry cooney and chris Byrd. Of course it could depend greatly on the dynamics of the tournament, how consistent or inconsistent some guys are, who gets to sit out and rest, and what kinds of injuries each man sustains in the process. If the Gerry Cooney of the Holmes fight shows up and performs in that manner througout the the tournament, he likely has the best chance of winning. But Chris Byrd is certainly a factor.

Great post. Yeah I didn't plan out the tournament real well and missed the fact that one guy might have to sit out. Good points.

Frankly I see Damiani winning this . . he's probably the most well-rounded fighter here. Byrd could also do it but I can see him being outworked by a few.

Considering I ran a tournament several months ago, and alot of those on your list was on there--- if I recall, Cooney made it the farthest--- however, I'd venture to say on your tourney it would of came down to Sanders and Byrd. And that would of been a hell of a contest--- if the Sanders who came and fought the Klitschko brothers showed up.

Much depends on the draw. You're better off with 12 fighters. With 10, you have bye slots.

I would say Mesi and Valuev are the long shots.

Tua or Sanders I think would take it.

OK....I'll run it on the computer and report the winner. We'll need two more......any suggestions? (Make them throwaways, we don't want to have someone come out on top that's NOT in this group...lol. first two names entered that are not odds on to excel get the nod.

It will be sudden death tourney. You lose, your out.
