As you know, Gonzalez beat Yaegashi today. He's now a three division world champion, and holds wins over Estrada, Hirales, Yaegashi, Takayama, and Rodriguez. Where does he rank P4P?

wins over quality champions. 40 - 0 and him having world class skills.

I suggested on another post around #5 or #6. Could argue for higher, or slightly lower. Dude is a beast and his performance today was brilliant against an extremely game alphabet champion who looked bigger and had the advantage of fighting at home. Gonzalez could move up and win belts at 115 and 118 eventually, IMO

Actually, Yaegashi was the lineal champion.

Gonzalez should be in the top 5 P4P.

I'd place him at #4.

I have him #2.

I really hope this guy opens up more exposure to the lower weight classes. Comon HBO/Sho... sign this guy up and broaden the sport.

If he beats Estrada in a rematch, and then beats Ruenroeng, where would you put him P4P?

He's definitly top 10 no doubt about it.

Go ahead and root for Gonzalez all you want, but when he becomes lightweight champion and p4p #1, people like greenmonkey and Brut are just gonna call you "gonTURDS", because they think it's clever.

Iirc I had Estrada winning 5-6 rounds

Yes, there is a bunch of fighters above him who don't have a record/achievements even close to what Roman has. It seems like a base point level for flyweights and some other low weight classes is too low, so you can keep beating everybody and still not getting a high enough rating.

P4p is very effed up based on the point structure. Nobody below 140 lbs in the top 18 and Carlos Takam
..... Carlos fvcking Takam, is rated above Roman Gonzalez and several top notch lower weight belt holders. Just being a top 10 heavyweight in a noticeably lame heavyweight era makes you a top p4p contender

When people talk about the heavyweight division, they say it's worse than previous eras because of smaller talent pool. But you never hear anyone say flyweight sucks and Roman is the best of a shitty division because of small talent pool. There's 1057 heavyweights and 699 flyweights. Just saying, the argument about size of talent pool needs to cut both ways, or it needs to die for good.

The point is: Roman has a perfect 40-0 record, is the best in his division and has 3 wins over top 5 fighters in his division. Why the hell is his point rating so low that he is below Tacam, Mchunu, Postol, etc. ?

-The lower weight divisions really are small talent pools, and the top block on a small pyramid isn't going to be very high.
-Fighters move up in weight more often than they move down, so boxrec points tend to migrate upward in divisions, so the higher divisions simply have more points than the lower divisions.
-Prior to Yaegashi, Roman's opponents really did have some low boxrec ratings. Only a few of them had over 100 points. At light flyweight, 100 points is roughly the top 15 threshold. So he really hasn't defeated very many divisional top 15 fighters at all.
-Roman got hit with a poor opposition penalty sometime around May I believe for not fighting anyone good in 18 months since the Estrada fight. It wasn't a huge hit, though, because Oscar Blanquet wasn't that much worse than half of Roman's rating.
-Having a 40-0 record is actually just completely irrelevant. Last year, Paul Spadafora had a 48-0-1 record, and you see how much that means. Of all the numbers to place value on, the W-L record is the most irrelevant.

A more interesting question.. is how close is he to displacing Arguello as the best boxer from Nicaragua?

If the lower weights have a poor talent pool (which Flyweight REALLY doesn't right now) what the fornicate does that say about the Heavyweight division which has a talent pool (as in a pool of fighters that are TALENTED as opposed to just a number of athletes competing in it) of about 5 fighters?

Prior to Yaegashi, Roman's opponents included 2 CURRENT unified champions! That's a hell of a lot more impressive than 99% of active fighters.
