Do you think Carl is at a disadvantage with his trainer, Shane McGuigan, being so young and inexperienced? Surely Shane has only came into the job because of who his father is. Am I being harsh on Shane? Or do you think Carl is going to need to get himself a proven and successful coach if he really wants to make a big impact on the world scene?

He was probably talking from a coaching standpoint rather than a fitness one.

Yeah but I get the feeling that Mcguigan is very thorough in all areas. He's read up on a lot of different trainers, watched tapes of how they hold the pads and so on and so on. Probably had conversations with a fair few to pick their brains.

He's been around the sport all his life, he's intelligent, level-headed, and that he's receptive to external opinions is also to his advantage. What's not to like?

I like Shane. It's a fair question to level at a 25 year old trainer though. Even one who grew up around boxing.

It is a fair question. I've always had the mindest that young people should be given a chance to prove themselves at the earliest opportunity, on the proviso that they push on with open ears. So far McGuigan Jr has done that.

Mcguigan did have a very brief career himself, so its not like he's a complete novice.

It's a close knit environment and at the moment its working well. Shane should continue to grow as a trainer alongside Carl's development as a fighter.

Very impressed with that performance last night and the game plan the Frampton camp came up with. Kiko was mate to look average for large parts of the fight. I think The Jackal takes Santa Cruz but off course loses to Rigo.

They also have Jimmy Tibbs in the corner - you'll be hard pressed to find more experience than that!

@black panther......good call, Shane sounds incredibly focussed and smart but the addition of Tibbs on the night was a smart move because he has seen and done it all. I had the BBC commentary on and they sometimes eavesdropped on Carl's corner and it was so calm and professional in there, Shane running things but Tibbs just adding the right extra word now and then again. Definitely a case of the best of new and old school working together....Carl should keep it.
