first of all, respect to floyd for giving the rematch.
at this stage he wouldn't have to. if he can say no
to pac, he could say no to this one too, but he doesn't.

i watched the fight again the other day and had some
thoughts. first, marcos reminds me of froch with his
best quality being his fighter ethic and the ability to
take solid punches. i find both technically boring but
i love to watch them nevertheless.

what puzzled me was marcos almost weird punches
from above. he threw this hooks as if he would dunk
a basket ball. never seen that. i wonder if it was part
of his game plan to punch like that. i saw this style
before in this fights, but never that extreme.

second thought was that the match and rematch might
be similar to leonard-duran. sugar was going toe to toe
in the first, but boxed in the second. i wonder if floyd
contemplates on that. to his credit, with his biggest
weapon, his uncrackable defense, being taken away by
marcos being too close, too weird and too iron chinned,
he nevertheless won a difficult fight. yet if floyd chooses
to box and use more of the ring it could be that the age
difference plays a more prominent role than in their
first.

in any case. credit were credit is due, floyd takes difficult
fights.

I think the reason for the rematch is that Floyd is a little embarrassed that someone as limited skill-wise as Maidana could win 3 or 4 rounds against him. Floyd, I am quite sure, went against Floyd Sr's game plan of hit and not get hit, and it backfired. I do think that he will move more in this fight, mainly lateral movement and staying off the ropes.

Even if Floyd says ahead of time that he will stand toe to toe and slug, people say his legs are gone. His fight with Cotto was another stupid strategy I thought, but still won. Even though he showed his legs were fine against Guerrero, since he chose to slug it out they are gone again.

I hope this fight is not close, whoever wins, so no one can bitch. Even at 37, Floyd is way above Maidana in all areas. I even think he matches him in punching power. The only thing Maidana is better at is illegal tactics. I predict a no mas type fight between round 8-11.

as much as I hate to say it, Floyd does not have the same legs he did just a few years ago much less in his prime. He can still be super quick with it but not nearly as often. Some of the time he was on the ropes in their first fight by choice, sometimes not. He will come with a better strategy this time around, but he'll still have to dog it through rough patches and at least some of that illegal bullshit Maidana always does. Still predicting a clear Mayweather win, really hoping Floyd stops him to the body but I doubt anyone stops Maidana he is just too tough.

We know what Floyd is going to do.
It's really about what changes Maidana will make.
I think Mayweather tasted Maidana's power enough to the point where he felt comfortable taking a rematch, which is one of the reasons we are here.
If I were Marcos Maidana I would start this fight just like the last one and go straight at Floyd, I think Mayweather is expecting Maidana to gas out.
If Maidana can produce extra down the stretch or in those periods he's taking a break then he has every chance.
All on the condition Maidana has prepared properly of course.

floyd is on his way out, but man, how great he is

gets a payday settling him for life. great to see this
old school type of fighter doing so well.

Yep, I also like that Marcos gets what he deserves. He has had a long hard rode thus fur.

Marcos is definitely in a win win position. Even if he loses to Floyd even badly, he has a guaranteed rematch with Broner which could end up a PPV.

i agree, in this respect the comparison totally … sucked.

I will be on here right away to congratulate Maidana if he wins, as long as he wins it honorably, and not like the cheating SOB he was the last time they fought. Win it in a fair boxing match, with no fouls, using your skill, and I will be impressed. Like I said before the ref better have a solid handle on this fight early, or it will end early, and ugly.

He never suggested that Maidana is roughly as good or as accomplished as Duran, so why does it matter?

FMJ's comments on the Rice situation may cost him, officiating and scoring-wise.

I can't remember the last time i had such little anticipation for a Mayweather fight. I'll maybe catch it ater to see if Floyd can do any better than his performance the first time around where i felt he clearly lost by sitting on the ropes.

I think it will be another hard fight for him, but i fear he may stink this joint out big time tonight and take a 8-4 type win.
