Looks like Verno Phillips' career will have come the full circle after the IBF have sanctioned his June the 5th bout with Carlos Bojorquez, following Kassim Ouma's withdrawn with a bad back.

Bojorquez is not a bad fighter who famously score a 4th round stoppage over Pernell Whittikar 3 years ago (Pernell's final fight), but surely doesn't possess enough quality to beat Phillips who is in the form of his career.

Phillips first won a world title way back in 1993, capturing the WBO belt against Santos Cardona, he was considered faded by 1995 when he lost that title to Paul "Silky" Jones in Sheffield on a majority decision.

What a career turn around, surely he won't slip up this close from redemption.

If it wasn't for his old whiskers (not saying he was chinny, but he was no Wayne McCullough) we would have heard a lot more of him, good fighter. With an apt nickname.

If you classify, Joe Calzaghe, Johnny Nelson, Nazeem Hamed as geniune world champions - then you must classify Jones as one aswell. He won the title fair and square in the ring from the champion - although Phillips was barely recognisable to the fighter he is now.
