And the new WBA Heavyweight champion is....

Well thanks to the wonderful people that run the WBA we now have 3 heavyweight champions to choose from.
Luiz Ortiz stopped Lateef Kayode last night in a round to win the interim version of the title, he joins Chagaev and Vlad as title holders.

As for the fight, Kayode was the most nervous boxer i've seen in a few years, Ortiz looked lean and mean and just walked through the former cruiser, the stoppage was a bit premature, but it just saved Kayode from being stopped in the next round.

I've no idea what the WBA are doing, are we now not going to see Vlad v Ortiz as this would be a very good fight.

As I understand Ruslan Chagaev as a regular champ has to fight Luis Ortiz, and the winner will be mandatory challenger for Wladimir Klitschko

Ortiz is ranked No. 25 by BoxRec. The WBA are ridiculous.

Thing is Ortiz looks like he could be a credible challenger to Wlad, but will now go down the route of a couple of easy money making fights, disguised as world title fight defenses.

He looked in good condition last night, once Kayode clapped eyes on him , his confidence went. You could see in his face he didn't quite know what to do when the bell rang.

Won't his interim title defences have to be against fighters ranked in the top 15 by the WBA?

Ortiz could do with a few decent wins on his record before facing Wlad.

Ortiz will have to face someone in the top 15, but Kayode was in there so that shows who they can promote without facing any contenders. Kayode had only 2 fights at heavy facing boxers with a combined record of 30-40-2, he had never faced a rated heavy.

Kayode was the number 5 contender for the WBA title!! how the hell did he get there. check out the WBA top 15 , there's loads of easy paydays for Ortiz now, not that he'll see much of the money

Kayode has got to be one of the least intelligent boxers I have seen. He first goes on an rant about Showtime and uses loads of bad language in the rant following his draw to Tarver then curls in guard and lets himself take shots in a round where he was put down, leaving the ref with no choice.

I was at the fight (in town for the Mayweather fight) and it was just rubbish. If he had taken a knee, got through a couple of rounds, he might have done something. He basically lost his only chance of a world title (in the loosest sense of the words) by not trying enough.

If I agree with a unicorn on one thing, it's foolishness of the WBA.

I've said it before, but that Maquiladora where they churn out the boxing belts must be going fvcking great guns.

Panicked from the off, what did you think of Cuellar? I know Juanma was pretty shot, but thought Cuellar looked good in the short time it lasted.
Have a great time watching Mayweather, very jealous

The WBA are so corrupt. I remember them making Ruiz Haye's mandatory and promoting Audley to 4th in the rankings. pudenda.

Ian - hard to tell as j is so shot. Great hand speed and he throws the third and fourth punches of a combo really fluidly.
