You all probably know what I mean, but for those who don't, the best commentator who either currently fights or used to fight. This goes with past commentators as well.

For me, it's Paulie, by a country mile.

I used to enjoy Jones Jr as well. Foreman was funny, but sometimes I wasn't sure if he was watching the same fight I was.

I like Paulie too.

Foreman was interesting just because he spoke in the oddest way, he never said anything hugely insightful, nothing I ever heard anyway, but he was fun to listen too.

paulie is very good......the only time i wasn't impressed with paulie is when broner fights. he cant hide his hatred for broner and he can be very biased. other than that he's pretty awesome.

I was wondering how he would be. But, honestly, I thought he gave Broner a lot of credit in his fight with Taylor the other week. And did a pretty unbiased job.

well honestly I didn't get to see that fight so maybe he's pushed his feelings to the side a bit.

Paulie is definitely the reigning champion of fighter/commentators. He drops a pov that I think most fighters would relate to, but probably wouldn't be able to articulate like Paulie does. Wouldn't mind seeing Paulie hanging them up & just working the mic @ this point in his career.

Malignaggi did fairly well on this card, he's coming along.

I feel he exact same way about Paulie. I hope he has a long career behind the mic.

Foreman was ok and even insightful at times, but there were times that he said stupid sh1t, and other times that he had a big chip on his shoulder.

I like Roy as a commentator ("The Commutator", lol). He seems to see things that the other commentators don't see. For example, he saw Tracy Patterson's nice body shot on Gatti wasn't a low blow, even before the replay.

Mancini bothered me during the Tyson/Corrie Sanders exhibition. I don't know why he was complaining; it was a sparring match, man. Just sit back and enjoy.

Lennox... don't like him very much as a commentator.

Antonio Tarver was the best, he was articulate and had the right voice for it.

While always being fair and objective, Tarver made insightful, intelligent comments.

Barry Jones. By a mile, briliant.

Jim watt?

I quite like Jamie Moore as a commentator - seems fairly measured in what he is saying rather than just spouting rubbish like some of the others

Agree with both. Paulie is the current best.

Foreman was fun because sometimes it seemed like they just had a collection of random sound bytes of him that they would plug in at random times during the fight.

Paulie the best.

Roy is good but only when I understand what he is saying.

Macklin, Jacobs have their moments.

Ward average.


I like Barry Jones but he is more of a real commentator and not an analyst type commentator like those others.

I like Paulie a lot as a commentator as many do- he's one of the best commentators in the business (not just among fighters).
On balance, Tarver was the best fighter/commentator, as he was a very good commentator (nearly as good as Paulie IMO) and an even more accomplished fighter, making his combined abilities as a fighter & commentator superior, if that makes sense.

paulie is very good. he can sure cram alot of words into a short space like no one else around.
tarver wasnt bad either, but he often was plagued by the same crap andre ward does when he has nothing intelligent to say... tired old cliches like "at the end of the day", "take my hat off to him" .

i think foreman literally said in every first round
that one fighter came out dry. he was the weirdest
thing to listen to. i always had the cognitive dissonance
in my head trying to match what was said with who
had said it.

i liked roy jones, when he cared enough to speak an
english understandable across the five kilometer line
around his home.

at least paulie isn't a yes man. he has an opinion. try to get one out of guys like andre ward, danny jacobs etc. "at the end of the day", "110 percent" " i take my hat off to him" blah blah f'n blah.

Woodhall often calls a fight well, he's usually right as to where a fight is at and pretty good at explaining to the layman (like me) why a fighter is actually winning and what the other guy needs to be doing to turn things round. His big problem is that he's a bit dry, does not have the best voice and is also not viewed as a big personality...which is a shame, because the content of what he says is usually sound.

Which mean he's not exactly bias praising a guy who 1. has a controversial victory over him, and 2. clowned him about stealing his girl.
