That's what's wrong with boxing...thinking everyone has to act like a carbon copy of Floyd to sell tickets. That's totally untrue. Neither Tyson nor De La Hoya acting anything like that to sell tickets and both were bigger sellers than Broner at the same stage.

Boxing history is littered with the scalps of charismatic fighters that grabbed the public's interest but were quickly snuffed out and forgotten.
Not saying Broner's a no-hoper, but he's very, very far from crossover star good, skill-wise.

Sounds Logical.

A) I'd hardly say Broner was especially charismatic. He'll soon run out of novel ways to be dumb, and there doesn't seem to be an especially magnetic personality underneath. At least, no more so than Adonis, GGG etc.

B) what should we be doing to "support" him beyond what we're already doing? If he fights Peterson or Vargas the majority of us will watch it; if he fights Matthysse or Provodnikov or Garcia we'll be excited to see it. Maybe really excited even.

Should we all be buying AB merch from his website? Telling everyone we know to tune in to see him labouring to a decision against another relative also-ran?

C) crossover appeal happens partly through clever marketing and partly by natural forces (including luck). Maybe Wilder or Thurman or even Ward will later get embraced by the public in a larger way - there's plenty of time for any of them; Floyd wasn't an overnight success, nor one that was predictable based on any precedent like de la Hoya's success or Tyson's.

D) AB has a looooooooong way to go to "perfect" his defence.

He'll still make good money though and he seems to have the power and the heart to get some more good wins before his career is over (to me, the Matthysse and Garcia fights are certainly winnable), he'll just never be what you (and he) think he'll be.
