How did a Sauerland show on Sky compare to a Matchroom show?

I've only seen brief highlights of groves and Campbell fights so didn't really get an idea of what the whole show was like. Sauerland talked about bringing their unique setup to London and Eddie is always banging on about how Matchroom are always looking to do innovative things (ie rip off top rank).
So, how did the Saturdays Sauerland show in terms of an event and production (not sky but the actual promoters role, ring, extra entertainment, entrances, music, lights
Atmosphere, pace all that jazz) compare to a matchroom one?
Perhaps someone who attended live and has been to matchroom ones of a similar level could comment.
Is it all just the same or can promoters make subtle differences that effect a show?

Campbell's fight was a good step up, Szot is one of the better journeymen in Europe.
As for the production we saw some of the German value brought over for Groves's ring walk. It's on par with Hearn and well above Warren's typical stuff.

Do we judge people on the quality of their entrance now?
I hate ring walks. I'm watching for the fight, not to watch some guy take 10 minutes to walk to the ring. I taped the Groves fight, so fast forwarded through all that.
That was the good thing about the Channel 5 bill. On smaller hall shows, you don't get as much arsing about that you get in bigger venues/bigger fights.

Too right. These undercard fights aren't even contests. Pointless watching when you KNOW who is going to win.

the undercard was all matchroom, and as usual, it was your usual mict match garbage,
The main event for me though was thoroughly entertaining. Its been a while since i saw a genuinely competitive opponent in their with a british fighter. So for that, Saurland did a better job than Matchroom.

The Matchroom undercards are very poor. A prospect v an eastern European punchbag or a decent opponent that has moved up a division or 2 & is far too small. I honest think they are very stale & although I know it wont be a big deal to them, but I am considering if I will be going to another.

The undercard was rubbish, main event was a good fight. Didn't really see much other than the typical white ring which Sauerland use and the big entrance for Groves. The atmosphere sounded great though.
I think Sauerland were hoping to have Price on the undercard. There is a lot Sauerland can do better next time because that show was not that great.

They managed to get Price to give opinion during the fight though.

At least they had a decent MC, although the lighting and the white canvass made it look a little dark unless they were trying to hide the crowd numbers

I was chatting to a mate who's a casual fan, about this and he said he didn't care because he wanted to see knockouts
Being quite into boxing now and fed up with Matchroom cards, I've never seen it from this perspective, but that's what the majority of watchers might want?

Quite possibly. I remember watching a Ricky Hatton fight with some guys who don't watch much boxing. Forget exactly which one, but it went into the latter half of the fight and some were sneering at the idea that it might go to points. The assumption being that if Ricky couldn't knock someone out, he'd had a poor fight.
You've got to remember, that boxing these days is marketed at the casual fans. The assumption being that hardcore boxing fans will watch regardless, so don't need marketing to. Most PPVs are hyped up beyond end for the reason that they are aiming it at the sort of fans who need to be given a reason to watch. It's not much of a stretch to think that this will also be the case on the undercard. Making fights featuring people with decent win/loss records or where there'll be an easy knockout will look good to fans who just want to turn in with a beer and see people hitting each other. The fans that know that there's more to it than that will grumble, but watch anyway.

Hmmm, interesting thought. Maybe that's what they're going for, but personally I've watched undercards with plenty of casual fans who haven't particularly cared about a knock-out (or boxing skills for that matter), they just want to see competitive fights with 2 boxers smashing the sh1t out of each other for the duration. Obviously not every undercard fight is gonna end up being Gatti v Ward, but watching a prospect knock over a completely outgunned opponent isn't much fun for anyone. Whenever my casual mates watch a fight like that, their only reaction is "well, that was pointless".
