Interesting that DLH keeps on his wife-beater, I don't remember him looking too ripped against Mosley in the rematch. Hope he is fighting fit. :-?

Look at Hopkins' arms, those are fighting arms, nice and lean.

Juan Lazcano: 135

Image
Jose Luis Castillo: 134.5 – half a pound inside the limit for the notoriously big lightweight, Castillo.

Sturm and Allen both look in excellent shape, Hopkins was a pound inside the limit at 159 and the other three were all bang on.

Always suspicious of fighters who weigh in wearing clothes.....Dela Hoya does not look too confident.

Should I put a score on Sturm?

I reckon it's worth a flutter. DLH didn't look too impressive at light middleweight, Winky would have kicked his arse in my opinion, and now he's moving up even further in weight. If Sturm doesn't allow himself to get overwhelmed by the occasion I give him a shot at pulling off an upset.

Disagree there James, DLH's career best win and performance was against Varags at Light Miidle. Yeah, he was poor (by his usual high standards) against Castejlo (or however you spell it) and also against Campas, but I thought he was as good as ever vs Vargas and Moseley.

Not saying your entire post is wrong, I too would probably tip Wright, but to say he was poor as a Light Middle is a little harsh.

Not sure of his actual weight here, but not to impressed with his condition - some people are questioning his motivation, I'm not I just think he's a Natural Lightweight, moving up two stones (even if done scientifically) your bound to look a little bit looser. By the looks of him, he is pretty much at 11 st 6, I would think he'd be a better fighter if just wore heavy jewelery and kept to the same natural weight as he was for Moseley.

I must be missing something here, in his first fight at 11 stone he dethroned a solid, strong champion. He won every round and dropped him in the last, short of knocking him out there's not alot more he could've done, it was a very good performance.
In hindsight it was an even better win than thought of at the time. Castillejo is a very capable boxer who holds a win over highly regarded Roman Karmazin and since the De La Hoya fight has gone 6-0 (5).

I'm going with The Golden Boy Oscar on this one, most likley on points or maybe late stoppage. I think Oscar is a level or two above Strum and that will show regardless of the weights. Strum aint no Hopkins.

It's Las Vegas. If De la Hoya loses, the judges will still give it to him.

From fightnews:
For the Oscar De La Hoya vs Felix Sturm WBO middleweight title clash, Vic Drakulich will be the third man with Dave Moretti, Paul Smith and Mike Glienna scoring the bout.

I think Strum will put up a decent fight, might even get an early lead, then the more experienced Oscar will turn it on and hurt him - maybe a late stopage, or more likely a points win. He's had more title fights than Felix has had fights.
Allen will put up a good show too, but Hop should stop him around 10.
In the battle of the Mexican's, I'm leaning towards the younger Lazcano on points. But he's been hurt before, and Castillo is a tough SOB....

Looking for a bet today - not sure who - maybe Beyer on points???

Hmmm I was thinking about that one. In Germany defintely....but in the States, Lacey might get a points win on agression alone.
Might leave that one.

Very true, and I'm not disagreeing with you - however generally people have said DLH boxed smart because he soon realised that at 11 stone he didn't have the power to hurt Castillejo much (apart from the last). It was the safety first approach that I didn't like, but yes it was a SMART performance.

However, he was scintilating in his war with Vargas, who is regarded alot higher than Castillejo. There can be no arguments that he was poor there. He fought a big, powerful Light Middle (held in high regard), and fought him. After a torrid start, he eventually out speeded him and out muscled him. That for me was his clear defining moment, that sealed Greatness.

I do agree, DLH is probably fighting smarter now than he ever done. He remember the Chavez rematch when he played into Julio's hand by trading with him. He didn't fall for that one vs Campas, and boxed very cleverly when beating Moseley last year.

Yeah I put £25 on Tsypko at 5-2 - I think it is an even match.
Also lost £25 on Mirovic at 8-1, but was definitely a good bet..

I'll stick a tenner on Sturm just to give the fight more interest...
