Curtis Stevens Interview on N’Dam: “How much running can he really do?”

Ringnews24 the chance to chat with Middleweight contender Curtis “Showtime” Stevens (27-4, 20 KOS) and speak about his next fight against Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam (30-1, 18 KOs). The 12 round scrap is the main event on ESPN Friday Night Fights taking place on October 1st. This is an important fight for both combatants because the winner will be offered the opportunity to fight for the IBF middleweight title. Stevens talked about his training leading to his fight with N’Dam, his desire to become a world champion, a possible fight against Peter Quillin, and a rematch against Golovkin, among other things.

Ringnews24: Your next fight is on October 1st, which is about one week away; take us through your training routine on the final week before your fight.

Stevens: My training is just regular. Everyone’s last week of training is different. My last week is hectic. Monday is light. Tuesday I had 12 rounds of sparring, my last sparring [session]. Wednesday was our last drill day. Thursday I’ll get up for a six mile run then jump on a plane for California and relax after that. And Friday just sharpen up a little bit.

Ringnews24: I am sure you’ve seen tape of your opponent; you’ve seen his fight with Peter Quillin. How do you describe N’Dam’s style and how do you think he’ll approach the fight next week?

He wants Golovkin again? I hope he realizes he isn't getting the same money again for another beat down. I must admit he has balls though.

he got beat down, but it was golovkins toughest fight to date which doesnt say much. Any improvement whatsoever from stevens would make a rematch very interesting.

No it won't because Golovkin is getting better all the time himself. If anything I would expect Golovkin to get him out of there sooner.

I doubt Stevens can do much better than he did the first time.

I think ouma was a tougher fight for GGG and possibly Proska.

Ouma was undoubtedly GGG's toughest challenge to date, but that was largely to do with GGG's poor condition at the time.

Stevens definitely gave GGG more of a test than Proksa did.

If we're talking about the credentials of his opponents, Geale is the best he has faced, though he certainly didn't give him his hardest fight.

Stevens sucks so far in the N'Dam fight. An answer to the title question is: 12 rounds.

Curtis Stevens looks a little dehydrated to me. He isn't as strong at middleweight as he was at super middleweight. I'm not sure his chin is as good either, another sign that he might be cutting too much weight to get to or under 160#.

Movement, reach and timing when to not overcommit has made look stevens very limioted so far. Ndam was well prepared and executed very well so far!

Stevens got a boxing lesson. Ndam performed well and had a good plan, but for fuckks sake Stevens move your hands. I know that Ndam's footwork made it hard for him to set himself, but at some point you've just got to get your hands moving.

Stevens is not a good boxer.

Anyone else notice that Curtis continuously taps the toe of his rear foot on the canvas? Just really noticed it tonight and can't remember seeing any other boxer doing anything like it.

x2 Ive seen a few boxers do that,ii cant remember if Stevens was one of them

Dissapointing performance from Curtis,apart from the odd haymaker he never really landed with anything,N'Dam was dominant from the start really,a bit "runny" sometimes but the result was never really in doubt,i had it 117-110

The ring was small, but Stevens still couldn't catch N'Dam. He looked really limited.

Stevens looked like he was on the verge of losing his last fight until he caught his opponent late, so am not all that surprised N'Dam whipped him. Stevens got his 15 minutes of fame by taking his beating from 3G better/longer than most, but he's always been a limited puncher.

Stevens power is overrated IMO. Who has he really stopped that was any good?

That's weird how N'Dam embarrassed Stevens like that, because I remember just a few months ago, Golovkin's nuthuggers were trying to argue that Stevens was better than N'Dam. So weird that they thought that.

Lackeos, you are not only a hater, but also a liar. I can't see that anyone was saying that Stevens was better than N'Dam. For example, in this thread

7 people voted for N'Dam, 5 for Soliman, and NOBODY for Stevens.

Ndam ran off of the jab on the back foot for most of the fight.
When it looked like Steven's would throw the big one and initiate the onslaught it was Ndam who caught Curtis and floored him.
It turned the fight.
From that point Ndam continued with defence and played it even smarter, the 12th might have been sketchy for Ndam but he held on when he was supposed to.
Clean win for Hassan.
