Ward is probably praising God for his release right now. RIP Dan!

He's probably got mixed feelings in truth. Whilst undoubtedly he'd be happy about his contract being freed up if that was the case, he'd probably still feel an element of sadness about Goosen dying. He might even think that the whole contract thing contributed to it.

It was liver cancer. He probably knew for a while but kept it a secret, as is his right.

I think the Ward contract discussion is too soon.

Very sad news, I will never forget him in the Chico / Castillo fight giving his fighter a telling off in the tenth.

Ward's is surely now a free agent

You're thinking of Joe Goosen (denim jacket), Dan Goosen (white shirt) is his brother & was the promoter.

Doesn't Ward have a contract with Goossen's promotional company, not Goossen personally ?

Don't always agree with you, but you're on the money here.

I had the pleasure of meeting Dan in Shelton, WA in early August 2014. He was very pleasant. He promoted a nice show that weekend at the Little Creek Casino. RIP and prayers for his family.

It's a boxing forum. People have said their words for Dan and I don't see the issue with discussing the implications his death will have on the consensus #2 boxer in the world, though perhaps it should be concentrated in other threads.

In regards to those concerned about Andre Ward… isn’t the S.O.G. contractually obliged to be promoted by Goossen Tutor Promotions? Surely the next person in line in Dan’s company will still own Ward's contract?

Unless there’s something stipulated in Ward’s promotional contract specifically implementing special behaviour in case Dan passes away, then I wouldn’t assume Andre’s situation has changed... until we hear otherwise.
I would think so too. Only maybe the next person in line is more inclined to let the man go.

RIP Dan.

Ward's contract will be owned by the company.

Exactly. Goossen Tutor Promotions still has a contract with Ward. If Goossen is no more, there's still Ronald Tutor? But maybe it'll be easier for him now, especially because Dan Goossen sued Ward.

This has zero bearing on Ward whatsoever. Lawsuit continues.

A statement from Andre Ward on the passing of Dan Goossen.

"I was deeply saddened to learn the news of Dan Goossen's passing early this morning. My thoughts and prayers have been with Dan and his family since I received the news of his illness last week. While Dan and I recently had our professional struggles, he was a great man, father and husband. He will be greatly missed by the boxing community. I will continue to keep the Goossen family in my prayers."

Goosen's ribbing of Don King whenever their fighters would face each other was always fun to watch. He was one of the few promoters who didn't take himself too seriously.

RIP.
