Callum Smith's opponent?

by keirw
Anyone know why it was left so late for his opponent to be found? and why he is so poor? when I remember Hearn saying it will be a 'step up'.
His name is Pintos, he has been KO'd a few times in his long career, most recently in May in the first round to a prospect.
He has already fought once this month aswell.
I had no problem with the shit opponent in August, given the circumstances, but this time there should be no excuses

Mostly a career MW as well...

Possibly the worst Saturday night card Matchroom have put on in recent memory. I'm not trying to be negative towards Matchroom but this stuff is dire.

Burns in an 8 rounder or has that been pushed to 10? Rose in an 8 rounder? Nurse and Warrington will probably be shown in 12 rounders, between them and their opponents, 4 guys, they have 15 KO's between them...

I don't know what fights Sky will be showing live but I'd expect it to be a long, long boring night with Jim and Nick pushing how good these fighters 'Really are!' down our throats for 3-4 hours...

If even I'm thinking about giving the card a miss, what must non-fight fans think and worst of all, what will they think after watching it!

Wonder if there'll come a point when Bo X N ation gets better viewing figures than Sky ? Fwank has been slating some of the Sky boxing shows this year, including at the press conference last week when Eubank/BJS fell apart around him. I get the feeling if Sky's figures dip a bit more, Fwank will be able to boast more people watch his channel instead. Depends on what sky are showing of course, some of their promotions will get good figures but this Saturday night's "showcase of the re-treads" may not be one of them.

How did I know when I saw that James Wilson posted that an unfunny, sarcastic remark about people criticizing a Matchroom card would be awaiting?

Are promotional outfits like boxers know, with 'nuthuggers', 'haters', and and such?
Eddie pays ya well :OhYes:
Lol, seems like it.

And if you read more closely you'll see that multiple people aren't just criticizing Smith's fight, but the card as a whole. What are the best fights on it?

The main event and chief support in my opinion. Are the top 2 fights amazing fights? No, but then this isn't being held at a 20k arena, and they are not sh it fights.

My comment wasn't just aimed at the criticism of the Smith fight. Other fights being criticised are down the card as well.

It's a 13.5k arena, there's not many that size about.

I've not seen Dieli before, but at 35 and without a notable win on his record, plus the defeats at lower levels, I can't see him being much threat to Warrington. Nurse-Ryan isn't exactly worthy of chief support though, Ryan's lost every time he's stepped past area level, with the exception of McCloskey, who was well past his best at that stage. It might be a decent fight, but it shouldn't be chief support to what is a pretty average main event as it is. After that it's difficult to find another well matched fight on the bill, the only other one I can see is Simon Vallilly vs Paul Drago, which is highly unlikely to be televised.

There's nout wrong with the main event and chief support. Ryan lost, but put up very close fights vs Eggington and Woodhouse and those are his two most recent defeats. Warrington's opponent's last defeat was at EU level and was a split decision defeat, and on top of that the opponent was ordered by the EBU rather than being chosen. It's like complaining about a mandatory challenger. Taking a European shot was definitely the right move at this stage of his career.

Also while the arena does hold 13k + it's not being set up for that capacity this weekend is it? Much like some of the MEN cards that have been set up without the upper tier open.

So what's the deal with Burns' opponent? He has a record of 17-1-1, mostly over bums, but still, 16/1 odds!!! anyone know anything about him? Burns is shot...

Dunno but Warrington is 1/40 and his opponent is 14/1 thought they would have been a lot shorter. But no idea how good Dieli is.

Tyrone Nurse Dave Ryan looks the only competitive fight going off bookmakers.

I can't seriously believe anyone believes this card offers much in the way of competitive action. I fvcking hate these marathon "left side of the bill" cards. It's got "series of boring one-sided wide points decisions" written all over it.

& Diele's... A rather poor opponent for a vacant EBU title fight. A powerless shouter who squares up.

This is a triumph of matchmaking & marketing over sport. When a certain Islington-born promoter does it, loads of flak. Now it's the SOP of Someone Else. See the "reign" of his 8st 10lbs "champion".

I'm a bit concerned about this card. I hope Eddie knows what he's letting himself in for putting it on after Leeds have played Sheffield Wednesday in a 12.45 kick off. Warrington has tapped into the football market and there will be thousands there. Leeds is a huge city starved of sporting success. Josh is arguably the first boxer the 'lads' have had to follow. Wharton is a traveller, and from York, Denzil Browne, Tom Collins, Carl Johannesson and Crawford Ashley are all black. Josh really is one of them. The only other is Damo Jones, and his fans have already rioted... Looking at my fb page, loads are going who I've never known comment on boxing, and that's just York whites(they're all over Yorkshire). They can be absolute twats as well....

Hearing they all chuck their lager everywhere when Warrington does his ringwalk to 'I predict a riot' shows they can be classy when it matters tho.

This is much bigger than any of the previous fights. Saturday night after a local derby. They will be starting at 9.00am.

TBH I'm surprised to hear LUFC are still playing. I thought they packed up years ago. Has Lee Chapman retired yet?

Yes, and they'll probably have one of the biggest attendances in the country tomorrow.

Hearn said Smith beats groves right now. If that's the case why not put him against degale on the Liverpool bill??
