Bellew vs Cleverly - Box Office Joke!

Eddie is cashing in big time....cannot see how he can do this. The whole reason I pay for Sky Sports is for the boxing. This is not box office! Eddie, you have let the fans down here and thought of your own pockets!

When David Haye signed with Matchroom last year, shortly after Froch Vs. Kessler II, Eddie said the following:
“That’s important, [Haye’s first fight with Matchroom to be on Sky Sports] especially with our mission because fan perception of what we’re doing is important, we don’t want them to think: ‘Oh, Froch-Kessler’s pay-per-view so that’s how it is going to go now,’ — it isn’t,” answered Hearn when asked if putting Haye on Sky Sports was an indication that the powers-that-be won’t milk the PPV teat dry.
“Froch and Kessler is a freak fight that comes around once in many years, especially in the U.K., so when we signed David people came out and said it would be another pay-per-view, but it isn’t — what I’m saying is that pay-per-view should be for something very, very special. Haye on normal Sky Sports will do massive numbers, and that’s paramount to what I’m trying to do on Sky.”
Fans are being mugged off.

i just can't see this working who's gonna pay £15/17 for it it's not a froch vs groves level fight ,both fighters have gone backwards and have had bad KO loses since the first fight it's a decent european title fight not a world level fight and not PPV ..

I agree. If it was on SKY Sports I'd definitely tune in to watch without fail. I just don't see this being worth £16.95 on top of my monthly SKY Sports subscription. I don't want to encourage SKY or Eddie by giving them my money.

What a joke. I hope this PPV bombs badly and I have a feeling it will.

Agree with the OP
I do not like football and only have Sky Sports for the boxing. Half of the shows are shite so I do not watch them so pay for the occasional gem and decent fight and so to put it on PPV is bollox.
allegedly, love it or hate it, gives much better bang for your buck. Some decent and some shite domestic cards and some cracking international dust ups.
The BJS v CEjnr thing was a pisstake but generally they still offer solid value for money when you look at the big international stuff

Matchroom and Sky have the better domestic names by far but as we all know, this doesn't equate to the better fights. BN undoubtedly has the better international content as Sky doesn't even seem to bother aside from the odd fight.

This might just have made up my mind to chuck Sky Sports. £60 odd quid a month and this fight isn't even included.
The rematch is only happening because Cleverly and Bellew both got walloped at world level. Total piss take.

I'd sack it; SKY phone you up a week before they stop it and offer you half price for 6 months, it's an all round mickey take.

That is the quote that stuck in my mind. I can't see how PPV is needed for Bellew v Clev, they surely can't be on really high purses.

I defiantly agree about the boxing coverage on sky of which my sky sports package is ending soon and i wont be renewing it. As boxing fans people are already paying through the nose for sky sports, and for some reason every time there's a 'big' fight on eddie hearns pushing for box office. Theres times where i really like Eddie but theres other times where he comes across as abit of a greedy bastards if im honest, he slates allegedly and everything to do with it, but ill be carrying my subscription with them for the money they offer some corking fights and a decent team presenting them. For one i wont be missing any of the people on sky to do with boxing.

Maybe in Eddie's defense both of these two are asking for too much money and it'll only happen if it's on PPV. Saying that though, i'd rather it didnt happen then. It's not a fight im overly fussed about.

This is nothing more than an intriguing domestic dust up between two british boxers rated 3 and 4 in the boxrec British cruiserweight ratings .
Unbelievable that sky and matchroom expect us punters to an pay additional fee to their subscription for this type of event. I hope us punters don't buy into the inevitable hype .

Even if Bellew & Cleverly were asking for too much money, Hearn should call their bluff & threaten to cut them loose - it's not like they have many other options & there's no way either of them are going back to FW!
Regardless, I can't see Hearn being bullied into making this PPV by Clev & Bellew somehow, he's on a cash-grab pure & simple. Hopefully the card makes a huge loss & Matchroom/Sky learn their lesson, although I doubt they will.

They may be on a smaller guaranteed purse with a share of the ppv. If that is the case, bellew will be torture in the lead up to the fight.

I could only get to about 15 minutes of the press conference. Everyone laughing their nuts off when Bellew was having a go at Cleverly's dress sense and such. It wouldn't have mattered what he said they'd all be in stitches.
Reminds me a bit of the political party conferences each year, Milliband and Cameron could stand up and say 'I gunned down some Grannies last night' and everyone in the audience would still be on their feet clapping.
