Look at who N'dam was fighting.
Look at who Lara was fighting.
I know it exists in every sport, but the level of bias among boxing fans is beyond ridiculous.
For instance,
Amir Khan holds medium puncher Luis Collazo EXCESSIVELY ... few complaints.
Floyd holds Maidana, probably less times, like two or three entire topics devoted to it.
N'dam basically followed Dirrell's gameplan when he stunk it out against Stevens years ago.

LOL
To whom has N'dam become a hero based on his win over Stevens? Alvarez was outworking Lara and consistently landing more power shots, while Stevens was just following N'dam around, not throwing, being outlanded, and of course he was the one who got dropped; OP says N'dam wasn't doing anything but he was clearly doing more than Stevens despite all the movement. Lara-Alvarez was also a much higher profile fight, which typically = more discussion.

Canelo [97/415, 23%] Lara [107/386, 27%]
Not really but ok

To whom has N'dam become a hero based on his win over Stevens? Might the fact that far fewer people likely saw Ndam-Stevens than Canelo-Lara play a large role in the disparity between the criticism Lara received and that which N'dam received? Could the fact that Stevens was so negative be drawing criticism away from Ndam's performance, while since Canelo wasn't so negative criticism wasn't comparably diverted from Lara?
There are many possible explanations other than bias, although that may well be a factor. One case in which I thought bias was clearly involved was when when one poster complained about Carlos Molina holding James Kirkland, but let Devon Alexander slide for holding a comparable number of times against Marcos Maidana. Someone juxtaposed their assessments of the bouts, and it's too bad the post was deleted amidst forum renovations because the contrast in the interpretations was quite humorous.

N'Dam looked better than Lara, because Stevens wasn't doing even what Canelo did -- throwing body shots most of which hit elbows.
This was basically a repeat of Steven vs Direll fight. Stevens didn't learn his lesson or is just not capable to deal with movers.

Same thing can be said for Canelo. He lost to Mayweather then lost to Lara too.

Not so obviously. The Lara fight was a close one. Stevens was humiliated, was even dropped.

Haven't watched this fight yet.
Clicked on this thread and I see N'Dam/Stevens being mentioned in the same posts as Dirrell/Stevens

.
Having read that I will not waste one second of my time watching N'Dam/Stevens.

There was no robbery! It was a classic case of what you personally prefer… Canelo’s powerful cleanly-landed shots to the body, which Showtime wrongly-claimed that the judges ignore… or Lara’s range-finder jabs and feather-fisted combos, which are still technically-scoring punches.
The majority of the media, like me, preferred Canelo's power, which is the reason why he deserved to beat Lara's rather negative lateral movement from rounds four onwards.
The majority of media didn't have Canelo winning based on the media poll we've discussed. If by preferred you mean thought won, you're statement is incorrect assuming you consider each score.

I know that as I drove to work today there were thousands of people on either side of the road chanting Hassan N'Dam's name...

I bet wherever he goes now there will be crowds running alongside him like in Rocky

What's to disagree with? It's a fact that most of those polled didn't have Canelo winning.

media cards averaged out to a draw, but 34 of the cards had it for alvarez, 30 for lara, 25 draw

N'Dam threw a lot more punches than Lara and landed more than Lara, while Stevens threw less than Canelo and was a lot less effective than Canelo. The main problem for Lara was that there were a lot of dead spots for him in the fight, particularly in the second half of the fight, where he just didn't throw anything even when the openings were there. He allowed Canelo to bully him throughout the 2nd half of that fight, and even though Canelo wasn't tearing it up by any stretch, he looked like the one controlling the action in the 2nd half. N'Dam didn't go crazy with punch output, but he was consistent and didn't have nearly as many totally defensive stretches.

Got to admit Lara is a bit of runner.
He is.
When I think of that fight with Alvarez I can't help but lean toward Canelo is limited in his boxing ability.
Good puncher I like that about Alvarez, strong as an ox ... you can't hustle him in the power department.
Truth is he punches short, wide and has basic boxing fundamental issues.
Lara relies on judges to score via the one touch I hit you last system, schooled judges will see through that.
That said I scored Lara over Alvarez and uphold it, don't want to look two faced.
Many questions surround both boxers.
