im a fight fan like the rest of us - would love to be able to afford the full sky sports package and allegedly.Even then I would have to pay for matchroom fight pass to watch all the fights- and now Cleverly and Bellew is pay per view definitely a great domestic fight but not much on the world scene- its hard to pay £60 a month to sky sports and then be told this is a really big/good fight so you are going to have to pay extra- what a liberty!
I thought after the ridiculous hype Haye / Wlad lack of fight -SKY scrapped pay per view?
All of these fights are beamed free round the world and can be streamed how can the TV/promoters expect the public to pay- why because loads of us do- BOXREC carries weight in the boxing community lots of figures of prominence read the forum- tell em what you think !

Why do you think this fight is PPV ?
It comes down to the cost of staging the event.
So before shooting programmers maybe the question to be answered is what were the fighters demands to get this fight on ?

I dont believe for a second that this fight NEEDED PPV to be made. That's bollocks. If it did, tell them to get real or sod off, quite frankly. Never a PPV fight in a month of Sundays.

Their demands aren't relevant. Fighters will do as they're told, they've no alternative other than to go and get another job.

This fight was not the only alternative for both fighters.
Let me put it another way - how much do you think each fighter wanted as a purse for this fight to get it signed sealed and delivered ?

For the record before people get the wrong idea - no way am I suggesting that this is a PPV fight.
So how has the seed got planted ?
Greed on the part of Sky and Hearn ?
Maybe.
Not enough money in the pot without PPV to make it happen ?
Maybe.

Ticket sales seem to indicate the demand is there.
It's a worrying development - and someone is to blame.
All I'm saying is all options for the cause should be considered.
Painful as it is boxing is a business no longer a sport.

It's the same as football, the people taking the %ages make things difficult, the net result is usually the players/fighters making more money when things eventually get polished out but it's a market driven out of awkwardness and BS rather than a shortage of product.

It's all about the maths mate.

I can see SKY/Hearn getting a hammering over this, nobody cares about the main event or even the undercard full of one sided certainties, a load of fake interviews and arguments which nobody will buy into and hopefully come fight night the whole show will bomb, 1 round knockouts for the undercard and Bellew hiding for 12 rounds.

Maybe SKY/Hearn will then learn not to fleece the fans.

Its defo not cheap being a boxing fan that's one thing for certain!!!

Is it really a sellout or can the resellers hand tickets back and all of a sudden another section of arena is opened up for sale just thinking out loud ha

i really don't see this selling to many PPV's ,the first fight was a good fight but neither are really big names and both have had bad KO's in recent fights and it's a european fight at best . what happens if it sells 10,000 that wouldn't cover the under card even 20,000 would struggle to cover the under card ,so i just don't see this being a hit tv wise , some had said that casual fan will buy this but do casual fans buy PPV fights !

I wonder what the total purse amount is needed for a fight to be PPV?

I buy pretty much every thing, full skysports package, allegedly and bt sport but I will be watching this via stream for the first time ever. I understand the argument about the fighters demands but I can't see how it stacks up with this fight. If they were both world champions they would have loads of other choices but they actually need this fight. The other routes would be a number of fights to move up the rankings presumingly on mediocre purses or getting chucked in an away fight against one of the champions, presumingly on a poor purse as they are not mandatory and home team judges. This fight would offer a much better purse than those options even without ppv as the stadium sells out and plenty of sponsorship opportunities, furthermore the fight will be a big ranking boost so the potential for moving towards mandatory status for one of the titles. They are taking the piss out of boxing fans as per usual.

Hoping the PPV will bomb and I don't believe that it is a true sellout either, how many PPV buys do you reckon this card is going to do ?

I remember some of the football matches on Setanta channels viewing figures being so low they couldn't count the numbers and it was said it would have been cheaper to send the subscribers to the game in a taxi than show the match. Could be the same here , the viewing numbers for the PPV at this rate will be abysmal

80k? I think Sky would be delighted with that many, I'd be surprised if they manage half that.
