I didn't know this. He sadly died recently on September 26th.
I used to like his tone, calm approach, his way of introducing the "principals" and "this fine young gentleman" as well as his repeating each boxers surname after announcing them. RIP.

May Mr. Derian RIP.
A great ring announcer is so important to setting the scene in boxing.

You don't really notice many of the announcers until they're gone.
Derian had a very low-key, but effective style. Very friendly in his intros, as if he was introducing a family member.
I never really appreciated Chuck Hull until he was pushed out by Buffer.
It was a very simple style but attention-getting.
When you heard Hull's recognizable voice in the 70s and 80s, you knew it was BIG fight time.

Agreed. I think both Ed and Chuck got it right. They've probably been my two favourite ring announcers.

I grew up on the late Jimmy Lennon Sr., and will always be partial to him, but I also respect relative newcomer Lupe Contreras.
Enjoy his ability to effortlessly weave back and forth between English and Spanish.

Wow I saw so many fights where he was the announcer. Just did a professional job & never drew attention to himself.
Chuck Hull was my favorite. Great voice!
