For being so loaded with talent, there should be more great fights than we have been seeing. I suppose though you could say that about most weights.

I'm hoping there will be in the months to come, if the promoters are willing. Hopkins-Kovalev is an intriguing matchup.

Good talent, although I doubt Braehmer will fight any of those you listed. Would be cool to see somebody like Kovolev take over and own the division and fight a bunch of these guys, but he'll never be able to own all the belts until Braehmer retires.

Hopkins owns WBA Super title, while Braehmer owns the regular title, so Braehmer's title is more worthless than the other ones.

Which is good because he wouldn't go within two or three time zones of Kovalev, even on a flyover. Guy got a tummy ache and pulled out of a fight with "Stone Hands" Shumenov, FCS!

Lots of the names don't generate much money... But with Alvarez, Bute, Beterbiev, Stevenson, Pascal... all being from Qc, we'll see lots of big fights there since they can generate top world class gate money. Of all the names, only Beterbiev and ALvarez haven't proven they could do 14K+ crowds there... Shouldn't be long for Beterbiev...

I wonder if Adonis Stevenson is serious about fighting the winner of Kovalev-Hopkins?

I expect Kovalev to beat Hopkins and Stevenson to suddenly have "other options." Which is too bad because Kovalev-Stevenson would be amazing fun while it lasted.

Beterbiev will be interesting to watch given the fact that he beat Kovalev twice in the amateurs even KOing him once.
I think right now lt heavy has the potential to be one of the most solid classes in boxing IF the right matchups happen.

What's your source for the KO? I know he beat Kovalev 25-24 in one of their fights, but I hadn't heard about the manner of victory in the other.

He "defeated" Kovalev once on points in a robbery in Grozny, not by KO.

Beterbiev did KO Egan, Sillakh and Mchunu among others.

There are many interesting matchups that could be made for this fall in the light heavyweight division.

How about Beterbiev vs. Stevenson, or Barrera vs. Pascal? Alvarez vs. Fonfara, or Gvozdyk vs. Gonzalez?

The list in the OP has some genuine quality fighters, some good heavy handed prospects who have as yet proven nothing and some guys who have been beaten by Tony fornicating Bellew and you are telling me that this current crop beats not only the strongest era of LHW history, but arguably one of the strongest groups to exist in any weight division at any one time.

The list of fighter I listed actually came from a discussion on a thread I started on the boxing history forum, asking if this group rivaled any group at one weight class. The general viw was, if it was not the best it wasn't a kick in the bollocks away from it.

But of course Ryno Leibenberg, Andrzej Fonfara and Isaac Chilemba should be mentioned in the same breath....

Most fighters aren't going to fight a particularly dangerous opponent when they have a major PPV fight on the horizon.

What do you all think of David Benavidez?

I'm very impressed with him.
