James DeGale vs Gilberto Ramirez

Hearn has recently stated he is still working to get Froch vs Chavez Jr on for 31st January in Vegas, very recent comments show he is optimistic about the chances of making the fight. Assuming the fight happens, Froch will be forced to vacate his IBF belt. Hearn then goes on to say DeGale would most likely fight Ramirez, the 6'2 Mexican southpaw KO artist, for the vacant belt, probable as Chavez/Ramirez are Top Rank fighters.

Its an interesting fight thats for sure, i've only recently caught up on Ramirez via You Tube clips, i'm honestly not sure quite what to make of him just yet. From what i have seen he appears to be a come forward pressure fighter who mixes up his shots well and looks to have a decent engine and high work rate - clearly he carries a lot of power. In a recent IFL TV interview DeGale is quoted as saying something along the lines of he is not worried about fighting Froch at all and that he loses more sleep over one day facing the up and coming Ramirez.

Assuming DeGale beats Periban, which i'm very confident he will, and he does fight Ramirez next for the vacant title, how do we see this fight going?

If DeGale ends up fighting Ramirez, he will pull out of the Periban fight. He may have a tune up on another Matchroom card against someone who will give him rounds.

Tough fight for Degale. I wouldnt class Ramirez as purely a come forward pressure fighter. I think he's more intelligent than that. He's a pressure fighter/boxer who if he can avoid getting hit he will whilst at the same time taking the fight to his opponent. Very good and intriguing fight though.

Didn't realize Froch Chavez was still a genuine option! Is this Ramirez really this dangerous? How do people think he would fair against Froch?

Froch would tear straight through him in 3 rounds tops. He's a poor copy of Andy Lee -same height, stance, speed and repertoire as the Irishman (and a former middleweight)

29-0 sounds impressive until you look at his opponent tally of 368 wins - 192 losses

Froch's last ten opponents alone had 311 wins - 25 losses

I'd put Callum Smith in the ring tomorrow with Gilberto Ramirez and he'd knock him out inside 8 rounds. So if Degale is saying he loses more sleep over Ramirez than Froch, then he is lying to elevate his 'emphatic victory over an incredibly dangerous unbeaten banger' when in reality he is nothing special.

Don't get me wrong, I wish he was special - but he isn't I'm afraid ! it would seem 168 is not the strongest division nowadays compared to 6 years ago.

Take Degale off Bellew PPV bill and another PPV card with him fighting for Frochs vacant bill

He also knocked Mouton out in a round who had never been stopped before and Anthony Dirrell couldnt do anything with. To say Froch would go through him in 3 rounds is disrespectful to be honest. He's never shown a dodgy chin or anything and even Yusaf fornicating Mack went longer than that with Froch. Comparing him to Lee aswell is a bit misleading aswell as their styles arent exactly the same.

I've been following Ramirez for a while now and still not 100% on him being the next big name but he is a big SMW with good power and looks like he will be in some fantastic fights in the future. He's fought mainly at MW until 4 fights ago when he moved up but he'll probably end up at LH. He's only 23.

DeGale would have to be 110% focused on the job and not get involved in a tear-up because Ramirez's power is improving. Very risky fight and that doesn't seem like the way that Eddie does business. So I'd say it's all talk.

If the fight did happen, I'd favour Ramirez by KO or at least to put DeGale down and make a mess of him. An improving big young fighter that carries power, I see a few swerving Gilberto. Certainly the kind of fight I'd like to see DeGale in though :TU:

I don't need links because I watched the fight - Dirrell was returning after almost 1.5 years out with a badly broken leg after a bike accident and wanted to shake the rust off.

The fact you are labouring with your 'Mouton', a guy routed by a sparring partner of Carl's (who Carl floored badly in Nottingham) alters nothing about the fact that Froch would hammer this Ramirez with ease.

Dirrell being out of the ring for 1.5 years didnt affect his punching power. He hit Mouton with everything and couldnt him out of there. Regarding Mouton being easily beaten by a guy that Carl smashed up in sparring doesnt mean anything. He's a journeyman ffs. They get routed all the time. It's the fact that Ramirez stopped him in a round when he's never been knocked out before. I'm not sure what you're basing your prediction on Carl stopping him on 3 rounds on unless you have some insider knowledge that we dont know about (which is possible). I'm not saying Carl wouldnt beat him, just in regards to him blasting him out of the ring easily. I've never seen any signs of Ramirez having a suspect chin or anything and i've never seen or heard of him touching down in a fight so far. If Groves's who doesnt have the best punch resistance can last in to the second half of a fight against Carl, I dont see why Ramirez couldnt.

In saying that, I'd reckon Ramirez would stand a good chane of KO'ing Groves. Another good fight, both can bang and we know for sure that Groves can be shook. Jury still out on Ramirez's whiskers.

Yeah Ramirez is definietly still unproven somewhat based on his opposition but he's a good addition to the mix along with the other contenders/prospects. Apparantly Arum offered Ramirez to Chavez jnr in a big all mexican clash but Chavez didnt want it due to not wanting to sign a contract extension with top rank. Hopefully Carl can get the Chavez fight but it's gonna be a pain in the ass I think and could drag on.

I think the thing with Chavez is that he wants the big money fights but at SMW, they are hard to come by right now. I'm sure he'd really be looking at Canelo but he is a couple of years away from SMW if ever and I can't see Chavez wanting to move back down but he might have to.

Chavez just can't lose his next fight. His chin might well be granite but his overall boxing skills are not a patch on Froch's. Froch could well go for the KO in Las Vegas and end up struggling late in the fight but even then, I don't see Chavez doing enough to get the victory on the cards, dodgy judging aside.
