What are the chances of Froch fighting Golovkin?

I cant think of a better fight in the sport of boxing at this moment in time. It would be a war to end all wars.

Who's to say Golovkin wants it, and who could blame Froch if his swansong fight/s dont include triple G, but if he was to fight and beat Golovkin in Vegas it would be an amazing climax to one of the best careers British boxing fans have ever witnessed.

I'd love him to do it.

Even though turning over GGG or even making a war of it with him and coming up short would further cement his stellar legacy, there are fights for Froch that would earn him comparable/more money with less risk of getting a hiding.

Highly unlikely.

I don't see he happening to be honest. Froch wants the Julio Cesar Chavez Jr fight in Vegas, and then I see him rounding his career off with either a shot at redemption against Ward somewhere in the US or a trilogy fight against Kessler back in the UK.

He risks too much by fighting Golovkin, either man could end up winning by KO. Ward and Kessler are both big fights. I reckon he would get beat on points by Ward again, but he has already managed to cement his place in UK boxing history despite being outboxed in Atlantic City. Froch beats Kessler again, the Viking Warrior is not as good as he was.

I think it could happen, but there would have to be a lot of money on the table - but I reckon this fight could be built to be really really big.

A future hall of famer against a young lion, a clash of the generations, a champ moving up to try and rip the title from a division up, a murderous power puncher against one of the toughest fighters (possibly the toughest) in boxing - there are so many angles to sell the fight on.

Maybe It's wishful thinking - but I think there's a definite business case for this fight. It depends how well Golovkin wants paying, because Froch is looking for nothing but really big paydays now.

The main enemy, is that Froch probably only wants a couple more fights, 3 at the most - and Golovkin isn't a big star - but then, neither was Groves it may be that there isn't time to build it before Froch retires.

I for one hope it happens, it would excite me in a way I haven't been excited about a fight in many years, it has all the intangibles in place, and for me it's a pick'em fight. I would probably favour Froch, as he's the bigger and way more experienced man, but I can also envisage Golovkin battering the life out of him in a brutal fight.

Froch has said before (on Sky I think) that he's not keen on a GGG fight, and at this stage of his career who can blame him.

I guess he'd take it for megabucks though.

I'm not sure whether the Chavez Jr fight is going to come off, I'll bet Chavez Jr is looking for hell of a lot of money to take the risk - I can see it being a sticking point - no way is Carl going to take the thin end of the deal at this stage, and Chavez Jr seems to think he's the mutt's nuts. There's no guarantee Carl will get what he wants. I'll bet Chavez Jr isn't confident he'll win the fight.

As For Kessler, as far as I can see he's pretty much retires, he hasn't had a fight since Froch beat him, and by the time a fight happened, he'd have been out of the ring for 2 years - plus the Froch win was comprehensive, and the manner of it suggested there's not a lot Kessler could do differently.

Froch's earned the right to take some star fights in vegas etc rather than another tough fight at the end of his career, so i agree with you and his assessment of his final fights.

He took on a british up and comer like he said he would all along, he's fought the best fighters out there, why fight someone like degale who's another dangerous up and comer, or GGG who at this stage is potentially a career ender (even though i think froch would win).

He also agreed with Groves that he didn't know what GGG would be like in the Super Middleweight division and if his power would come up with him.

Will the fight happen, I think it could happen. GGG is getting fast tracked big by HBO. If the Froch / Chavez jr fight happens and is an entertaining fight. I think we may see it.

Froch is big lump of a bloke and strong with it, GGG ain't a big middle, sometimes you should just stay in the division that suits your body, what's wrong with trying to reign at one weight long term ? nonito knows what its like to stray too high

The problem is that there's not that many challenges at middleweight. Anyway Golovkin boxed at 165 lbs as an amateur so whilst he's not the biggest middleweight I think he could compete at 168 if he wanted to.

The things is as much as the hype train is building up around GGG if he were to fight Froch next summer and Froch won (as I think he would) people would say:

- Golovkin is much smaller than the guys Froch usually fights.
- Golovkin's best win to date was vs Matthew Macklin whilst Froch had beat Kessler, Abraham, Groves, Bute, Taylor, Dirrell and so on.
- It was a mismatch vs a guy coming up from a lower weight Divison etc. etc.

Basically, Froch's win would belittled as Golovkin has beat no one of note and is at a size disadvantage.

It's sad but Chavez brings a ton more viewers and money than GGG.

I'd shoot my bolt for HBO to table a proper wedge for Carl to fight GGG.

Does he hit harder than Kessler, Abraham, Groves ? Let's be honest, nobody on GGG's record troubles Carl - but if vice versa, it is a different story.

Yes, but I'm sure Chavez Jr wants a shed load of money to put himself on the line - as he's definitely the underdog in most people's eyes.

GGG may well be prepared to take the scant end of the deal, because he knows that a win will capapult him into worldwide consciousness, and a loss will still raise his profile, and not really hurt his career, as he's moving up anyway.

Whilst Chavez Jr might bring more cash, it's possible that GGG will be more willing to accede to make the fight happen. He's kind of got nowhere to go at the moment, as there's not really any big fights for him at MW.

I think there were signs in his last 2 fights that Carl is on the slide. Golovkin is on the up and despite not having a proper, proper test yet he is defnitley is dealing with his opponents in a way that suggests he's on a different level.

Chances of this happening are as Don King would say, Slim and none, and Slim just left town.

Agreed with OP......one of the very best fights out there but I'd be amazed if it gets made.

Chavez might bring in more viewers/money, but that does not mean Froch vs Golovkin would not generate huge interest/money in its own right. This article on Boxing Scene http://www.BS.com/golovkin-rub ... ing--83410 shows Golovkin vs Rubio was the second highest viewed fight on HBO this year, second only to Chavez Jr vs Vera. Not bad going. Also, i would think Froch vs Golovkin could go to Vegas too?

Golovkin looks the business but i'm not jumping the gun, he has yet to prove himself at the elite level. He does look the business though, the hype is justified, and definately the best fight out there style wise is GGG vs Froch, it would be a war - if there's anyone out there that can chop him down its the cobra.

Chavez is locked in an increasingly bitter contract dispute. Hes the type of spoilt kid with rich daddy that gets his way or no way, and Arum will win.

Ward is the same really, these 2 guys will be out for a while imo.

I think Froch is smart enough to know he's in the most lucrative window of his life. If he retires he'll make a few quid in punditry but having worked as he's worked he'd be foolish not to milk the cow he's built. GGG vs Froch should be a promoters wet dream.

I'm not sure Carl is even going to fight again. If you listen to his last interview it sounds like he is coming round to that idea himself. For how long has this Chavez fight been mooted? If it was going to happen would it not have been made by now?

i agree recent interviews suggest the end is very near for him, i wonder if its Chavez for massive ('life-changing'?) £££££ or nothing.

I saw a mocked up poster this week which made me double take, so I Googled it and found quotes in the last week or so with him talking about it, suggesting talks started [again] at the weekend.

I'm not sure how clearer people want Carl to be.
He's said all along he wants to fight next in Vegas as a headline act.
That limits who could be in the other corner.
If it comes off then I expect that to be his second last fight and his swansong will be at Wembley.
If it doesn't come off then I think he'll call it a day.

I would think Froch v Golovkin would be a Vegas worthy fight?

What do others think?

I think Golovkin needs a little more exposure first. 2 more fast & brutal knock-outs against half decent names and he's big time Vegas worthy.

He would be already be a major star if he had signed with Arum imo, he'd have thrown a ton more money at promoting Golovkin and would've paid for higher class of opponents to knock out as a future PPV investment. Matching Golovkin with guys like Adama earlier this year was just a total waste of time & money.
