Professional boxing in Sweden has been banned since 1969. However amateir boxing for both sexes is still allowed though there is a lobby to ban that too.

and heres a boring fact... the Olympics in 1912 were the only games where boxing never took place, due to the fact they were held in Stockholm, which of course as we all know geography buffs, is in Sweden.

And just to finish this post off, heres a list of swedish olympic boxing medal successes...

GOLD

No medal winners

SILVER

1928 Nils Ramm Heavyweight
1932 Thure Ahlqvist Lightweight
1948 Gunnar Nilsson Heavyweight
1952 Ingemar Johansson Heavyweight
1988 George Cramme Lightweight

BRONZE

1928 Gunner Berggren Lightweight
1932 Allan Carlsson Featherweight
1936 Erik Agren Lightweight
1952 Stig Sjolin Middleweight
1972 Hasse Thomsen Heavyweight
1988 Lars Myrberg Light Welterweight

not too bad a record.

As for professional boxing being banned, given recent fights and the matchmaking of certain promoers etc theres a good case for saying competetive boxing is banned in this country!!

That fighters is probably Paolo Roberto. The funny thing is that K-1 is allowed in Sweden.
