On Saturday night Pat Barrett and Black Flash Promotions along with http://www.britishboxers.co.uk staged their first professional boxing event ‘The Homecoming Featuring the Next Generation.’ on a show governed by the BBBof C ,at the Middleton Arena in Manchester.

The bill included local lads:

Matty Ryan (top of the bill)
Zelfa Barrett
Curtis Cargano

Along with the Leeds boys:

Justin Newell (International Masters Lightweight Champion)
Reece Cartwright
Zahid Hussain

Laura "Cyclone" Kelly started proceedings with an exhibition on the pads at around 12 minutes in and the live boxing show starts at around 49minutes 30secs.

Myself, Jamie Albrecht and Robin Reid provide commentary, with Terry Dooley at ringside.

Was watching a bit of this at work today. Thought the production quality was pretty high considering the budget was probably quite tight. As an exiled Middletonian living in London I am going to try and get upto the next event if it's at the Middleton Arena.

Good luck to Pat. But if anyone thinks his promotions will be any m ore successful than Lloyd Honeyghan's are probably smoking crack.

Unless Pat has some serious money behind him, but it will still fail.

Being a good fighter is very different from being a good promoter.

A bit like football.

Me too. He'd tear up the Euro scene today. His kayo of Calamati was fantastic. Not for the Italian though.

If it ain't our very own Larry Merchant! I couldn't be there on Saturday but you all did a good job. Pat looked a bit harangued when you first interviewed him, hopefully he settles into it and keeps going.

The Willis one was a corker. Barrett's gone for Gibiliru, Willis and Calamati as his personal top three. The first two used to be hard to find, I've got them on DVD, full fights, and the KOs were well worked.

I was wondering and made this point on another thread, I am genuinely interested.

1: when was the last time a small hall promoter/manager's fighter boxed for world title or won it?

2: does anyone know if any of th small hall promotional organisations have made an annual profit in their accounts?

It just seems virtually impossible without a TV deal to make money.

I know these days small hall promoters insist on a fighter having to sell a number (£2,500 I think) so that essentially they're paying for the opponent....and working hard to promote themselves!

So if you have ticket sellers selling out the joint, without TV, I guess you can make a small profit.

Anyone have more idea than me?

‘The New Year Explosion’ KABOOM! – Black Flash Promotions – Jan 31st

Black Flash Promotions, BritishBoxers.co.uk and BBTV bring you an early 2015 treat, when they stage ‘The New Year Explosion’ on January 31st at the Middleton Arena in Manchester.

The show will feature an exciting line up of fighters from the Collyhurst and Moston Boxing Club and promises to be another fantastic night for the fans in attendance.

Featuring on the Manchester card will be local Middleton men Matty Hall, the former Commonwealth light-middleweight champion, also the popular Matthew Ryan will have his 8th contest. While making his professional debut is Rochdale’s former ABA champion Bilal Rehman.

Joining them will be exciting prospect Zelfa ‘Brown Flash’ Barrett and making his professional debut is the highly regarded Collyhurst and Moston prospect Sean Ben Mulligan, who will finally get the chance to showcase his skills on the paid circuit after a good amateur background.

Another interesting addition to the fight running order is the professional debut of former Cameroon Olympian Blaze ‘The Lion’ Mandouo. A former Commonwealth Bronze medalist, Blaze was one of the Cameroon team member’s who absconded from the London 2012 games, due to political reasons. The big hitting Blaze has been living and training in Sunderland with friend Paul Martin and it was Paul who recently introduced him to Pat Barrett. The heavyweight prospect will now train in Manchester with Barrett and appear on the Black Flash Promotion shows as he builds his career.

There is still the potential to add more fights to the bill and any additions will be announced in due course.

Got to agree. Zelfa should ditch that nickname ASAP. It's only marginally preferable to 'The Skid Mark'.

"Brown Flash" sounds like slang for diarrhoea.
