How good was he? I remember Brendan Ingle talking about him some years back, although I never saw him in action.

Could only find http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gRf31JCKqmQ on Youtube. Unfortunately Teasdale gets stopped in the first minute by Jon Ibbotson.

That's really weird, I was wondering about Teasdale just yesterday & was thinking about starting a thread about him. Was going through some old interviews with Brendan saying he was going to be the best fighter to ever come out of Wincobank, obviously didn't pan out that way.

That was it, Shafiq! Thanks for that Reggae, I've been trying to remember his name for the past week or so. That really was an anticlimax, he only fought once and Brendan really built him up (even allowing for Brendan's penchant for exaggeration).

I remember some weird story about him getting peed off with Ingle, storming up there with a couple of rude boys, and getting chased off by Ingle's two sons.

Don't really know any details, but I'm pretty sure the Ingle bros, big guys and around boxing all their life are pretty hard to intimidate and undoubtedly can fight....

His name was Khalid Shafiq, got his name wrong. I remember now he turned pro in South Africa, was a draw and never fought again. Was a welter, I always though he was heavier.... No wonder he ran out the gym when the Ingle Bros chased him out!

Ah right, I didn't know about that. I googled him yesterday, he did time for violent disorder as well (fighting outside a nightclub). He sounds a dodgy character.

Bit more than fighting, that was. A young lad (a mate of mine) was stabbed by one of Shafiq's friends. Shafiq continued to punch and kick him after he'd been stabbed in the head and back. The lad died. Senseless waste of a 17 year-old life.

He didn't stab him. The lad that did, Damien Callaghan, got life. I think Shafique got 12 months.

Unlike khalid, Teasdale did win national titles as a junior although I always thought he flattered to deceive, ibbo did his time in the amateur and was well schooled from Glyn Rhodes gym till floating about as a pro. Khalid was a street kid from pitsmoor although from good parents he never impressed for me and rhodesy put plenty of time in him til his switch to Brendan to turn over.

Boxed for young England too.....I think it was his dad what led to him been lured

There are plenty of people in gyms who had enough about them to do really well but most fall prey to the everyday temptations/reality of getting a job etc. I know no end of people who could have been quality boxers/footballers/darts players.

I think that's splitting hairs. Ingle talked him up as next big thing and he wasn't.

Talented clearly. By the way, were his titles all junior or did he win any senior titles?

A good mate of mine knew him and rated him very highly. But he did say he was a livewire though.

Some of the comments I'm struggling to decide if they're about Daniel or Khalid.
The thread was about Daniel.
Everyone had high hopes for Daniel - he was so light on his feet and a great mover so made for the Ingles.
Not everyone makes it a fact of life.
I'm sure there's a Daniel in most gyms but for some reason Wincobank always seems to be the focus.
He's 32 now still in the Rotherham area and doing ok.

A guy I know who I won't mention said he was talented but everytime someone threw at him the room would panic. Seems he was chinny as hell

My cousins brothers nephew once delivered the papers in the Wincobank area and said the same thing.
