Matchroom plans 2015

few of my sources told me some info on Matchroom and their plans.

Very good chance Scott Quigg is likely to face Kid Galahad in the first quarter of 2015 in Manchester. (Galahad was due to be out in December but that show may have fallen through because of this)

Carl Froch vs Chavez is likely to go ahead providing Chavez can sort out his contract dispute this is likely to be on PPV in Vegas. To bump up the PPV there is talks of Jonny nelson vs macro Huck being on the same day which is likely to be included the price( although must admit I heard about this one 3 weeks ago so things may have changed)

And lastly Eddie Hearn is getting a lot of pressure high up in the organisation to deliver 3 PPV fights in 2015.

This is likely to be

Carl Froch vs Chavez
Carl Frampton vs Scott quigg
Amir Khan vs Kell Brook

Nelson bumping up PPV figures... when he was #1 in world he couldn't sell 10 tickets

I might be wrong but I don't think Hearn will have anything to do with Froch in the US, maybe just run the UK PPV angle... with Froch taking a big % - Froch isn't promoted like the rest of them, ie doesn't give Matchroom a % but takes profits from them ???

if all them fights happen I as a boxing fan would be very happy,.
I would pay twenty pounds for all them fights no problem even with a crap undercard

I've no interest in Froch v Chavez. Nor Nelsons comeback. I am concerned with the mooted 3 ppv suggestion though. It seems SKY are in it for the PPV pay off. It's all well and good saying you're trying to make Quigg v Frampton for example, but when the last PPV is Bellew v Clev it's hard to believe what they're saying, we'll probably end up with Quigg v someone South American with an 0, with a "stacked" undercard as PPV.

Or maybe I'm overly cynical?

Seems SKY are overestimating the attraction of PPV fights, once they were the true mega fights with a decent undercard to boot too now they think any decent fight is going to be worthy of going PPV. Strange a couple of years ago they abandoned PPV and now when money is more than tight for most people want fight fans to cough up 15 quid on top of their SKY subs too, they must be deluded.

They can put whatever they like PPV I won't be paying for it. Never again.

IMO Chavez in Vegas would be a far softer opponent than Chavez in Texas or California. Providing the contract is strong, I think Froch would absolutely batter him. In either of the other two states or Mexico, it would be a closer fight.

Is that how it usually works in regards to PPV sales then...
The boxers usually gives the promoter a percentage of their profit??? Except in Froch's case, were he takes a percentage of the promoters profit???

Im confused... who directly paid Froch and who directly paid Groves??? We each paid Sky £16.95 to see the fight, then I always presumed that Sky paid Matchroom a percentage, and then Matchroom paid the boxers a percentage, and then the boxers paid anyone working for/with them a percentage???

Only way I see any PPVs and I can only see one. And the card has to mega.

So

Brook v khan,
Frampton v quigg
Joshua v fury(British title if he doesn't vacate)
Degale for a world belt
Campbell v coyle

That won't happen but only wa I would pay money for a ppv

Depends on the boxer and the promoter.

When Haye was on SKY, he had a contract with them and took directly a % of the PPV, but that is probably because a. he was effectively self promoted b. in a very good position to negotiate.

Isn't that what Hatton did as well and why he ended up making more than Mayweather for their fight?

Brook V Khan (IBF World Welterweight Title)
Degale V Gilberto Ramirez (Vacant IBF World Super-Middleweight Title)
Joshua V Price
C.Smith V Rocky
Crolla V Ormond (WBO Eliminator)

Personally I think this card would definitely be PPV worthy and not overly unrealistic as far as potential bouts but I strongly doubt they would happen on the same night unfortunately.

Quigg V Frampton is a main event in itself, Campbell V Coyle will do well in Hull and Joshua Fury is also probably too big for an undercard if they both stay undefeated.

Think so mate, yeah. He did very well out that fight but he did a lot of promoting and obviously had that huge fan base.

After Bellew vs Cleverly sales they might just re-think the 3 ppv's.

I dont think he's the top dog at sky but top dog of the boxing/sports department.

Francis is head of sport or managing director of something at Sky. Apparently worked his way up and was previously Adam Smith's equivalent in Cricket many moons ago. We've all heard he is a massive boxing fan, and word on the street was he was very excited to meet SRR when he filmed a rinside special.

However, don't get it confused, Francis may love boxing but its business first and boxing is not viewed as a significant sport at sky. So, now more than ever he has to justify its position (he probably has a large part to do with why it is still fairly well represented on the channel. I'm sure a different MD without such a passion for it wouldn't have been so fussed about its exposure). Luckily Sky can trust matchroom and Eddie has shown he can deliver, and deliver big (wembley, 80k anyone). But next year will be an important one for Matchroom as some of their big names take a step up and also Eddies contract will be looked at being renewed or not.

But, if Hearn has to deliver those fights, he is the man to do it and still make a profit for everyone concerned, and if he can't he'll move on. One thing with Eddie is, he is a salesman through and through, and people buy into his crusade to change the face of British boxing, but the reality is as soon as the figures don't add up he's back on the European Golf Tour representing 'clients'.

Why would figures suddenly not add up? I mean they were adding up just fine without PPV. And all I hear is that sport is getting bigger. They are businessmen alright, that's how you make money, monopolize market and rob the costumers.

As someone who has just chopped Sky Sports following the complete insult taking place on 22nd November, I'd probably take Khan v Brook on PPV. That would be massive.

Yeah to be honest I'd be tempted by that one too.

I'm not totally against PPV - obviously I'd prefer never to have it, but I'm realistic enough to know some big fights would be very difficult to make without it. Trouble is, Cleverly vs Bellew 2 is absolutely nowhere near a PPV fight & everybody knows it (even Cleverly has said the same FFS!).
