After Kovalev beats B-Hop this Saturday, Andre Ward needs to

jump in the ring and interrupt Kovalev's post fight interview to challenge him immediately. How epic will that be!?? Now that Chavez Jr is on the Haymon side, Kovalev is the only opponent that will take Andre Ward to the PPV King level. Perfect timing considering Floyd's attraction is dwindling.

Kovalev says he can't go down in weight comfortably, so the fight would need to be at 175. So it won't happen, Ward will never fight Kovalev unless he's weight-drained like Dawson was.

And Kathy Duva isn't stupid, she's not going to have Kovalev fight Ward in Oakland with Jack Reiss as Ward's home referee. No way will Ward leave his comfort zone of Oakland to fight Kovalev.

Ward will have problems finding opponents unless he stops demanding all the advantages.

With good purses, Duva will definitely agree to an Oakland fight. Kovalev should KO Ward at 175 or get KO'ed anyway.

I'm sure you would have no problem with the bout being held in Kovey's comfort zone of Mother Russia.
Wherever they put the ring, however, Ward would slap Kovalev around like a mouthy wife.
Having a Plan B, C or D wouldn't help the Russian against the brilliant Ward.

Kovalev is not a coward who won't fight without home advantage. He doesn't need help from a crooked referee or corrupt judges.

Ward has already said that he's not a LHW, he'll retire before moving up. He's waiting on smaller fighters to come up and then he'll most likely retire, win or lose.

Isn't Ward already retired?

All conjecture until they fight. But they won't.

I’m still surprised people are talking about Andre Ward… he must still be relevant, even though there are no plans whatsoever for him to fight in the short-term.

Andre Ward has repeatedly claimed that he hopes to be involved in a fight soon, as stance that is supported by Virgil Hunter, but the political landscape hasn’t changed in the slightest since his period of inactivity began.

So as far as I’m concerned, I won’t consider Andre Ward as a “potential” opponent for any fighter, such as Kovalev or Golovkin, until his contractual situation has been addressed.

And besides, didn’t Andre Ward say the following about Sergey Kovalev earlier this year?

Main Events CEO Kathy Duva promotes the HBO-friendly option in the division, Russian dynamo Sergey Kovalev, and has voiced her desire to set up a clash with Ward. However, the 168-pound ruler doesn’t deem that bout very appetizing, either.

“Adonis [Stevenson] is on another network, so you have one guy, Kovalev,” Ward added. “It’s not a pay-per-view fight, and then if I fight him and beat him, then what?”
It doesn't sound to me like he is avoiding Kovalev, it sounds to me that he is stating the obvious facts about that situation. Neither Kovalev and definitely not Ward are PPV draws, and should he beat him it is exactly what he stated "then what?"

Ward does talk about GGG all the time, so he is ready to take on a smaller man even if it is not a PPV, but stays clear of a slightly bigger Kovalev.

The thing about Kovalev is, he's always going to land his punches at some point. I have no doubt Ward will not be able to take those punches like Hopkins did.

+1

... which is why Ward will never fight Kovalev.

I think he'd try and maul and fight on the inside so Sergey couldnt get off with his punches. One other thing i would say aswell though is that Ward is definietly faster on his feet and has quicker hand than Hopkins at this point. He can box as a southpaw aswell something Hopkins doesnt do. It would still be a very hard fight for Ward though.

I don't think Ward is physically strong enought to clinch Kovalev like he does his usual opponents who are his size.

This is THE biggest and best fight that can be made in boxing, but it's gonna be a while.

I suspect Beterbiev is the only other guy who can beat Kovalev. I want to see more of him.

Hopkins would clinch too if he could, but Kovalev kept the distance. He would do the same with Ward.
