Andre Dirrell's Opponent on Showtime

Who will Showtime approve as Dirrell's opponent on the Stevenson undercard on December 20?

Criteria:
1. Someone who they will build as a threat but in reality has a 5% chance of winning or less
2. Someone who has a name of some kind to keep the press of their backs (no Salka)

My guess:
1. Rogelio Medina - they will build him up as a big threat because he knocked out J'Leon Love.
2. Derek Edwards - they will build him up as a big threat because he knocked out Badou Jack
3. Peter Manfredo Jr. - a "name" opponent

In before Allan Green.

But seriously, I think Manfredo would ask for too much money.

You could get a full 6 weeks in if the fight was signed or rumored to be signed soon. I hope they're able to get a good fighter to commit. I want to see Dirrell against some real competition.

According to Rafael, its Derek Edwards who gets the fight.

Derek Edwards is a fairly appropriate opponent for Dirrell right now, based on making a small progression from Darryl Cunningham and Nick Brinson. I have no problem with that, as long as Dirrell continues raising his level of opposition thereafter, and remains active. Btw, Dirrell had been egregiously inactive for semi-understandable reasons, but he is looking to fight a third time in four months, which is a seriously active stretch.

I never saw the fight, but I read that Derek Edwards had Korobov in trouble early.

I think that this is the final step up in Dirrell's road back. In 2015, I expect him to try to make bigger fights.

I had heard that Dirrell was really out of boxing because he had split from Al Haymon. One look at that leaked Haymon Boxing contract from the Main Events lawsuit, and it would certainly explain a lot. Now that he's back in that camp, the fights are coming one after another. The problem is this - Haymon doesn't have a lot of quality 168lb fighters. Most of the division is overseas. Ward is trapped in promotional hell right now and will never end up with Haymon. If Chavez Jr. is switching to Haymon's promotional outfit, then I guess that's a fight they can build towards.

I agree.

Anyone watching the Canadian broadcast? Is the unofficial judge giving out 10-8s like candy or have I missed a lot of knockdowns?

To be fair, I think there is a place for more liberal use of 10-8 rounds.

I've got the allegedly one on with Corey Erdman, not sure if it's the same as the Canadian one but Erdman is REALLY good.

That's the one I'm watching. The unofficial judge has scored four 10-8s and a 10-7 and I haven't seen a knockdown, though I've been watching half-heartedly.

Another 10-7

He's got it 90-73 AD

Now 100-80

I think Edwards should've been pulled out after the tenth.

Was switching between that and the Yodmongkol/Reveco stream...hilarious scorecard, tempted to ask Corey Erdman what his mate was scoring 10-7's based on...

I'm another one who is half-watching this. What I've seen I don't have a problem with some 10-8s in there as it has been as one-sided as it gets. 10-7 is just bizarre though. 110-87 he has it now after 11.

Dirrell beat the shitt out of Edwards for 11 rounds then got badly wobbled by a hook in the 12th and spent half the round on his bike and holding.

Edwards is tough but he is too small for SMW.

Thats why you dont try forcing KO when you have not got a power.

After Froch vacates though, DeGale v Dirrell will be sweet. Although Yanks clearly have not heard of DeGale. Poor commentary.

Ya, I think there's a place for more 10-8 rounds but scoring so many 10-7s was taking it too far. I wonder if he scored the last round 10-7 for Edwards.

So #7 IBF beats #12. How does it allow him to pass #3, Gilberto Ramirez Sanchez ? And why were they talking about him becoming mandatory when there is #1, DeGale ?
