Two questions please.
1. How good was Kirkland Laing?
2. What is he doing with himself now?
Thanks in advance.

I seen a Steve Bunce piece on him on the BBC a while back. He's got tons of problems and was in a bad way when the program was made.

He was pretty much destitute, think he was even drinking special brew early in the morning, seemed to have trouble even remembering that he'd been a boxer at first.
Very sad sight.

I remember boxing monthly doing an article on Laing in 2001. I can't remember which month's edition or who it was by.
Laing was talking of a comeback and saying things like "My Jamaican roots mean that i grow old at a different rate to everyone else", and generally spouting all the cliches that washed up boxers on the comeback trail tend to do.
The article also mentioned he had a string of children by different mothers. If he is in a state now, i hope he can turn it around for their sake.

Thank you for the answers above.
I hope that Kirkland can get his life back together.
I remember watching him box many years ago and my father tipped him as a potential world champion.
Once again many thanks.

Another interesting point - on Sunday 20th June, Kirkland will celebrate his 50th birthday.
I sincerely hope he has a good one and that he celebrates wisely.

After the article on the beeb, they said that he'd suffered a serious fall and was hospitalised at the time of he broadcast. I hope he made a decent recovery, he was a great (wasted) talent at the time and a real character.
