For academic purposes, we will be looking at deaths and injuries that ended careers, from 1889 onwards. This is the year in which the last bare knuckle contest for a lineal championship was done, so therefore boxing as we know it today starts at this point and time; even though the Marquis of Queensbury rules were established in 1865. It must be said that this isn't (by far) a complete list, but hopefully over time one will be established.

Deaths Attributed to Boxing:

Du-Ku Kim (against Ray Boom Boom Mancini)

Ernie Schaaf (against Primo Carnera)

Benny Paret (against Emile Griffith)

Frankie Campbell (against Max Baer)

Sonny Banks (against Leotis Martin)

Davey Moore (against Sugar Ramos)

Francisco Rodrigeuz (against Teon Kennedy)

Beethaeven Scottland (against George Jones)

Marco Antonio Nazareth (against Omar Chavez)

Pedro Alcazar (against Fernando Montiel)

Brad Rone (against Billy Zumbrun)

Career Ending Injuries Attributed to Boxing:

Greg Page (against Dale Crowe)

Carmine Vingo (against Rocky Marciano)

Gerald McClellan (against Nigel Benn)
