I'm not 100% sure foreman had amazing power but he was slower and the punches you see aren't as hurtful ,lewis had great power too but wlad really seems to take anyone out as he has power and speed

Emanuel Steward and Phil Jackson said Wlad hit hared than Lewis with both hands. Wlad's straight right hand and left hook have amazing power. If only he had Lewis' uppercut...

Huge puncher, but his caution reduces his quick kos

Good question.
I'd say Tyson at number 1 for power, followed by Wlad. Klitschko.
Foreman was more of a clubbing, slower puncher, but obviously he would be up there. Lennox had vicious power as well.
So I'd say:
1- Tyson
2- Wlad Klitschko
3- Foreman
4- Lennox Lewis
But really it's so hard to say. They all hit very hard.

It's hard to compare the heavies from way back, like Dempsey, Liston, Joe Louis, etc...because they were considerably smaller than the fighters listed above. But for their time they were top punchers for sure.

I think Pulev... is the most over-rated contender we've had in a while...

I've never seen a man more stiff-legged, or fight with such a bizarre style as that.

He did fight in a rather strange way, but I think that he thought he could KO Klitschko. He probably altered his style, trying for a knockout.
It's hard to say he was overrated though...everyone has looked overrated against Wlad for 17 title defenses now.

Really I think he's the best of the rest ,which other heavyweight would beat him other than wlad ...

I dont know... as easy as it seemed tonight... Klitschko could of fought three contenders in one night and of beaten them. So either Klitschko is hitting his stride, his peak, or Pulev was over-rated, or Pulev fought stupid.

For me, P4P the 218lb Tyson was the biggest and most devastating and explosive puncher. But whether he punched harder than mathematically tested Ivan Drago is not sure.

Lewis, Bowe, both KlitschkoS, but also Corrie Sanders were pretty devastating

I think he fought a bit stupid. Chin high, very aggressive. But at least he showed guts and a will to win

Hard to say. Many fighters took his best punches and went distance. David Haye? Definitely in his early career that is. He's pretty awesome in his method of fighting an ideal strategy. That is, no one can throw him off his game.

Tyson - heaviest hitter. No way! He couldn't even k.o. some average fighters later in career. We all know how successful he was vs Holyfield, Lennox, and Buster

Wlad and Vitali are up there with the best of them as far as power is concerned. No doubt about that.

Pulev fought like a novice taught by some old guy who learned his fighting on the hockey rink. If I didn't know better I would've thought they'd pulled some ex-rugby or hockey player out of the audience and put him in there against Klitschko. He looked pathetic. I've seen amateurs with more skill.

For me the most devastating puncher in heavyweight history is Shavers.

This is the first time I've disagreed with you during my short time here :)
Shavers was a banger, but couldn't quite pull it off in championship fights...he almost did, but fell short I believe.

It wasn't his power that kept him from beating the eilite. It was his talents.Shavers power was incredible.
He just was not an elite talent. But I guarantee you he was an elite puncher

Stiverne, Haye, Povetkin, Jennings . . .I'd give them all better than 50% chances at beating Pulev, although to be fair Pulev had clearly deserved his #1 contender status based on resume.

I'm curious to see your top 5 ...which 4 heavyweights would you rank below Shavers, as far as KO power?
It's fun to rank fighters. I keep revising my own charts, and after today with Wlad blasting an undefeated, solid-chinned, number 1 contender, I had to move Wlad up in my own rankings.

I'd say Lewis hit harder with single shots than anyone I've ever seen - Tyson's real gift was the speed of his punches, opponents just didn't see them coming - thought he sure as hell could hit.

Shavers too, his power was mind-numbing, and Lyle.

Despite his stature, you've got to give it to Marciano, that hook absolutely destroyed people - I think again it was the angle he threw it at, and because his arms were so short, he could get in close, and bring it in an arc so the opponent never knew what hit them.

Lewis
Foreman
Tyson
Wlad

I'd say that's my take - the punch Lewis hit Rahman with was stupendous, it would have felled a bull.

I have the same four, but in a different order :)
Awesome analysis by the way.

The shot he hit Rahman with seemed so heavy that I was very surprised that Rahman nearly stood up within the count. One of my favorite knockouts.

Gotta feel for Wlad as the usual thing is happening in this thread that happens after he beats someone. The opponents end up just being a bum afterwards. Seen as one I mean.
