Not sure if this has been done before.

Very occasionally, my wife takes an interest in the fight game. It's usually when I'm watching a fight and she can't be arsed to go out of the room so tries to make conversation. But she did actually come up with a decent question that I couldn't answer (about boxing, before you start).

What do you have to do to become a cutsman?

My follow ups: How do these people end up doing this? Who are the best and do you have any decent examples of their handywork?

Mick Williamson is regarded as one the best(being Hattons cut man u would wouldnt you) along with the late and great Ernie Fossey and not forgetting Dennie Mancini. There is a basic procedure to follow when approaching a cut the rest is just down to experience.

Isn't it Mick Williamson who is a cab driver during the day.

I'm pretty sure there are no actual formal qualifications required to be a cutman, but there are some who are actually physicians.

Might be worth phoning the BBBofC (if they ever answer the fornicating phone, I've never managed to get through to them), and asking them what the requirements are.

Anyone who holds a trainer/seconds license can attend cuts I think the procedure may be outlined in the BBB of C rule book.

Nah. I just think that a good cutsman can be worth his weight in blood. Can often be a key to survival and a win or a retirement loss. And not many people mention them, do they?

Have always liked Dennie Mancini myself.

And I'm sure we have all seen poor cutsmen who do more harm than good...

Read a few interviews with some good cuts men, and the impression I got was it's just something they picked up on while doing general corner work.

Don't get any training I guess, apart from on the job. Angelo Dundee used to tend his fighters cuts himself I think, even with Dr Pacheco in the Ali corner.
Some of them talk about their secret formulas ( cement probably ).

I believe Danny Holland was Henry Cooper's cutsman (and Minter's).

Whos the famous man who works in the corner of greats, he wears a saliour hat? i was speaking to him last month but forgot his name.

bennie king takes some beating in my opinion... but never been cut, ha touch wood.
