apparently there had been a renewed interest in Mr. Paycheck in boxing of the past circles again earlier this year.
This is about a detailed article as you will find concerning his boxing career.

here is a link to a 1940 press photograph of Johnny Paycheck in training at Stillmans Gym for the bout with Joe Louis that
no doubt will have a particular appeal to some of the posters at the forum here, namely
Tuan_Juan,Tomasino,Mugabi,Evereb,Boxbuzz and 'gp.".
(as if all of the above are really not all the same poster here).

Saw the photo on ebay. Shame on Joe fighting an obviously intellectually challenged man.

And for the boxing compleatists ,now finally available on CD is the rare recording of the Joe Louis vs Johnny Paycheck title bout.
As heard originally live on NBC Friday Night Fight Blue Network.
But since the fight only lasted two rounds, they had to pad the running time of the CD out, with Louis and Paycheck's appearence on a NBC radio programme
several days before.
I wonder where they found this recording?

Johnny Paycheck may have appeared to have been just a 'baldy old fart" in that fight,
but actually he was still only 25 years old(born June 1914).
and the right hand that Joe Louis lands on Paycheck in round two at about 3:28 into the clip was said by some ringside observers
to have been maybe one of the hardest right hands that Louis had ever landed on an opponent in a long time.

Alot of people give Louis (and Paycheck) alot of sh!t for this fight... but when one looks at Paycheck's credentials and record, he was actually pretty good. He was a hell of an amateur boxer, competing and representing America in international competition (and winning). His two round destruction at the hands of Louis made people automatically say "bum", mainly because Louis was facing a myriad of odd challengers--- some of which were bums--- but maybe one can make the argument that this was "peak" and "vintage" Louis, and Paycheck who was a solid fighter just happened to be dominated by a man who was hitting his stride.
