Adam is a top guy and a gent, he's obviously done well for himself whilst at sky, I'm a great one for if you work hard you will get your rewards and Adam has obviously!

Only seems to be ppv events he's on the table. To hype it up for sales.

I don't know either, but it shouldn't really matter if he's never boxed. It's not like he pretends to come across as a hard man (not that he probably could!), he seems to be a fan who's landed his dream job. I doubt the heads of other sports at Sky are all ex-pros either, I imagine they're mostly just TV execs who have studied the sports & the viewing markets.

I know Smith does come across as a bit of a wet blanket at times, but he's enthusiastic in his own way, and seems a decent enough guy. I wouldn't say he's my favourite sports presenter by any means, but he's a long way from being the worst.

Whatever people say about Smith being a gent etc., as a fan of boxing and subscriber to Sky Sports he has failed miserably in his role as far as I'm concerned. I do like Ringside, but Sky simply do not get enough fights on their network and getting things like Cleverly-Bellew with an undercard stacked full of mismatches on PPV, it's just completely taking the piss.

Smith has a very important role in British boxing. If he is hyping up a fight to sell it to the casuals, it's not just about money through Sky's coffers in the short term, he needs to be thinking more about what will increase interest in boxing in order to achieve more in the long term. These PPV's and constant mismatches on Sky are what turn people off boxing. The only winner from what Sky is doing is Matchroom.

For me, the most credible effort in British boxing of recent years is allegedly. For all the hatred towards FW, because of what he has done with BN we no longer miss any big international fights. No more staying up all night looking for poor quality streams that often get pulled when I can go to bed with allegedly on record and get up the next morning to watch in HD.

Unfortunately I think allegedly is a temporary thing. Long term they probably won't have the subscriber base necessary to keep it going and when it eventually gets pulled, I for one will be absolutely gutted. Really allegedly are doing what Sky should have been doing for years. We have five Sky Sports channels, but fornicate all boxing. This is all down to Smith and his failure in convincing the heads at Sky to invest properly to develop interest and increase coverage in the sport.

I see Smith as little more than a star struck autograph hunter.

On Ringside about a year ago, he mentioned about how watching the 'Fan-man' incident (Holyfield-Bowe 2) got him into Boxing.

Well put that man. Head of Boxing for a TV corporation that doesn't have a dedicated Boxing channel reeks of "jobs for the boys" and or a pitiful offering to appease fans and give the impression of them being in it for the long term.
Personally I believe Box-nation will get stronger. People getting in to boxing through Sky will want to see Floyd/Pac. Bigger the hype, the better for casuals.

He's clearly not up to the job, his ringside shows are major embarrassments, his editorial decisions are woeful, and the over all quality of Sky boxing out put is miserable - his position in such an important role for British boxing is a disaster.

Annoying this is, if Hearn and Warren could set aside their differences and talk business they could provide a joint channel which holds both their stables. Some weekends set aside for Warren and some for Matchroom as well as the odd co-promotion. Add that to the overseas boxing already on BN and you'd have boxing to watch almost every week. I would pay £20 a month for this and cancel Sky Sports straight away.

These are also my thoughts, he strikes me as one of them smarmy public schoolboys who seem to do well and get good jobs because of the school that they went to.

There is also something quite not right about him - he looks a bit creepy to me.

Also not a fan of Smith. However, I was discussing the Matchroom monopoly with a colleague at work. He's a proper boxing fan, goes to a lot of shows but hates forum as "there's so many idiots on there". He's not wrong; especially on the Current Scene! In any case here's what he said:

I don’t have too much sympathy for allegedly. His business model isn’t sustainable. His prospects won’t get the exposure on allegedly to step up to that next level in terms of popularity. Every fighter’s aim will be to be a world champion and PPV/cross over star and that just isn’t possible with allegedly at the moment. If Hearn & Sky had put together that show that allegedly has in London it would have sold out in a couple of days and the promotion would have been massive. I actually think Hearn being on Sky has been really good for boxing. Compared to 5 years ago the quality of cards in the UK has improved massively. I remember some of the shows on Sky back then were completely woeful – pretty much every matchroom show was poor, and some of Maloneys and allegedly shows were poor with the majority from all 3 being in Leisure centres. Hearn’s only taking control because fighters want to join him and they want to because they’ll fight regularly on big bills, be heavily promoted and, if they’re good enough, will be given some massive opportunities.

I find it hard to argue with his points. The Bellew-Cleverly PPV is a joke but are the rest of his card really that bad compared to previous years? I remember when Eddie first came on the scene people were very excited and optimistic. I think the jury is still out on Fast Eddie. I mean when Froch was with Hennessy no-one had heard of him but once he joined Hearn suddenly everyone's asking me about the first Groves fight and more so the rematch. Anthony Joshua also appears to be becoming a name amongst casuals. As much as I criticise him, he might just be putting boxing back on the map.

Sky regularly show Gennady Golovkins fight and then when he faces a British boxer who himself is a analyst on Sky Sports they are not showing the bout.

I would be amazed if Adam was not being dragged across the coals for not delivering that one.

Barney Francis (head of sky sports) is a big pal of Adam and when the brilliant Chris Brown was removed Adam was next in line, Ed Robinson would have been a far far better choice.

I have always thought Adam is a good presenter; and I feel he gets undeserved stick because he's well spoken. I think his vocal delivery is very good.....
