Pacquiao-Algieri PPV buys??

I know there are not many people (Including Bob Arum) that expect this to do great numbers.
What is everyone's expectations on what this fight sold?

I expect it to flop and Floyd will use it as an excuse for unrealistic demands to stop a fight with Manny from happening.

What about PPV buys from the Chinese market, there must be some, and given the size of the population, even if only a tiny proportion buy PPV, that could contribute 250,000 easy.
Just a thought.

Arum really expected 750,00 to 900,00 buys.
He must have been lying.
Is he including any foreign sales, outside the U.S.?
Except for the hardcore, nobody knew who Algieri was. And Manny's PPV star has dimmed in recent years. I doubt it could match the 475,000 of the Rios fight, which was helped by Bam Bam's Latino appeal.

When has he ever did that? He offered Manny a 50-50 deal which Pac shot down, then he offered him 40 million dollars flat and he rejected that and recently they were offered 40 million plus 35% PPV and still he rejected it.
Manny and Arum are the ones with excuses, they'll be lucky if this PPV exceeds 350K buys.

That's funny, I interpreted that you were speaking of yourself since you posted the first butthurt comment trying to turn this into another Floyd vs Manny debate when all this is really about is Manny's ridiculously low PPV numbers that we will never really hear the "Real" truth about.

An objective person looks at Floyd's and Manny's numbers in their last three fights and says "Damn, Manny needs that Floyd fight". It is what the numbers say.
An objective person looks at Floyd and Manny's last three opponents and admits Floyd fought the better competition.
However, we won't have that because the public is pressuring the person in the more advantageous position to be desperate to make the fight. But in almost every other aspect in life, the public routinely pressures the person who "needs it more".
I just don't get the arguments made by Manny supporters. Because they feel they are on the side of the "good" person, they believe that their rationale doesn't have to conform to logic ... kinda like religion ...

ESPN report that there is no PPV infrastructure in China at this point in time, so there is no rhyme or reason to even consider your question.
That's what I understood.
The fight was broadcast on free Chinese television.

Is that definite - I thought there might be some, though not much. If so, then I wonder what was being offered by the Chinese market for the rights?
In the short term, I doubt this fight performed well financially, as a long term idea, one which Arum is unlikely to live long enough - it makes sense.

They should have offered it @ $9.95 and probably would have broke a million buys.

Pacquiao-Algieri brings in just over 300,000 PPV buys, says Glaser
By Chris Williams:
In what has to be interpreted as terrible news for Top Rank and WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (57-5-2, 38 KOs), his fight against Chris Algieri (20-1, 8 KOs) last month brought in just over 300,000 pay-per-view buys, according to boxing businessman Rick Glaser. The 300,000, if true, is the lowest pay-per-view number Pacquiao has brought in since earlier in his career.
The reason why it’s such a negative thing that Pacquiao brought in such a low figure for his fight against Algieri is due to Pacquiao wanting to face Floyd Mayweather Jr. If Pacquiao only brought in a little over 300,000 for the Algieri fight then it makes it difficult for him and his promoter Bob Arum to justify asking for a purse split of 60-40 or better.
With pay-per-view totals of 300,000 for the Algieri fight, Pacquiao would be lucky to get a 70-30 purse split for a fight against Mayweather. The thing is it’s highly unlikely that Arum and Pacquiao would ever accept a 70-30 purse split in a fight against Mayweather. But with Pacquiao’s horrible PPV numbers for his fight against Brandon Rios, and now his possibly poor numbers against Algieri, you can make an argument that Pacquiao doesn’t even deserve a 70-30 purse split for a Mayweather fight.
I think Pacquiao would be lucky if he got an 80-20 split for a fight against Mayweather. If Mayweather is pulling in well over 1 million pay-per-view buys for his fights, and Pacquiao is bringing in just over 300,000 buys, then it doesn’t make sense for Mayweather to give Pacquiao a 60-40 or even 70-30 split. We’re talking 80-20 here.
In hindsight, it was a horrible idea by Arum to have Pacquiao fight the little known Algieri instead of a better known fighter that casual boxing fans had heard of and care about. Pacquiao should have vetoed that idea when Arum brought it up, because it didn’t take a genius to see that the fight wouldn’t do well on pay-per-view.

In Pacquiao's defense I think ppv totals are down not only because of a crap opponent. But because of
illegal streaming.I for one do not remember the last time I paid for a ppv.
I can not see pac-algeiri ever doing over a max of 400,000 even counting illegal streaming.
But I do think ppv numbers are really out of whack with the streaming.

I'm staggered they got 300,000 people to pay $70 (that goes for any other fight pricing itself at that)

In Pacquiao's defense
Pac needs no defense, despite the gang of people who rush to do so anytime something doesn't reflect positively on him.
For a time, he had the interest of the non and fringe boxing fans but he's lost the C-4 finishers that grabbed and held those people.
He's simply not the same fighter that he was when he was pushing 1m+ each time out.
What has it been, 5-6 years since he ended a fight in exciting fashion, where he wasn't the one who got ended?
Canelo Vs a scrub like Algieri would've likely done better numbers.
The 3-4 long time PPV headliners popularity are all waning, and that's not surprising- That's just boxing.
They're the old guard. We're all ready for new blood.
Pac will go down as an all-timer, no doubt.
But I think this is the beginning of that "he should have quit a while ago" phase that too many fighters go through.

The truth being told some people think those numbers are inflated a bit because Arum's penchant for truth telling isn't exactly trustworthy and it is the Promoter's job to release the PPV numbers.
Alex Ariza made a sensible claim that Arum doesn't want the Floyd fight for Manny because he (Bob) knows that he will be subjected to having to open the books and reveal the real PPV numbers (maybe showing how low they really were) and also it'll allow Pacquiao a chance to see how much he is being really ripped off by Arum as well.
Even if you love Pacquiao and hate Alex you still have to admit that there is a ring of truth to what Ariza stated!!

Still confused on how this fight wasn't on WCB.
However, I think this fight helped find Manny's low number. There are about 300K people who will buy ANY Manny Pacquiao fight.

• Pacquiao-Algieri ~300K PPV buys
• Mayweather-Maidana II ~925k buys

70-30 is fair
Last I read from Arum was Floyd wants 65-35 which seems more than fair

It depends if "fair" is from Floyd's point of view or Manny/Arum point of view. The side you look from makes it "more" or "less" fair.

No, tiny_acres said that 70-30 is fair from Floyd's and his point of view which is why 65-35 is more than fair from their point of view. It doesn't matter who mentioned 65-35, Arum or somebody else. What matters is from which side you are looking at it.

Of course, he does. Floyd purposefully mainly selects Hispanic opponents to maximize the audience.
