Eubank on Eubank

What is Snr on?!

It's really hard to separate the possibilities of what's happening with his rhetoric.

1) he genuinely believes the things he's saying about his Son

2) he's creating buzz for the fight

Could be a mix of both, and while we'll get a much better picture come fight time, what do people reckon about Snr's claims? Big words, but even if he were to take them as an exaggeration, he's still suggesting that his son is one of the best boxers around. Really?...

Most things should be taken with a pinch of salt, including your inspired contribution to the discussion. Just wondered if anyone had any further insight into what happens in the Eubank camp. Wonder if Snr's involvement hinders or aids etc.

there used to be a guy called Copenhagen who put loads of posts about Eubank Snr on this
suprised he hasnt been on about Jnr,

im loving the eubanks back in about boxing , something more glitzy about it all

kindov the same when Barry Mcguigan is involved , its good to have Respected boxing legends taking on or working with the old school promotors.

x2 Good for the sport. Boxing is 90% hype and 10% fight. They've got the hype down to a tee.

X 2 Rhino.... he's fab.

To be fair, Eubank Jnr has looked on the whole pretty impressive so far. Incredibly early I know, but couple of not so great performances aside he's looked class.

If he does a number of BJS, then I assume it will be like the DeGale situation post Smith. People will forget the not so great performances in his first few fights and suggest he is already at world level.

This is an acid test (I'm not writing off either after Saturday), but as Jim Watt used to say about Dad - "until he is beaten, he can still call himself simply the best".

I just posted on the other thread, the more I think about it the more I can see CEJ winning, has BJS been dropped/stopped before in the amateurs?..anyone know?...... plus, there must be a reason why froch used CEJ as a sparring partner, he must be fast and bloody durable.

80-6 overall, 46-3 in internationals and won his first 49 fights as a senior, almost all of them in internationals. Considering he won his first 49 as a senior and his last amateur fight was at the Olympics, when he was 18, it wouldn't surprise me if that was his only loss as a senior. Certainly haven't heard about any problems with his chin and it's been rock solid as a pro.

I thought Saunders would really kick on after turning pro, he's also looked to me to be a 'small' middleweight. I thought Ryder had nicked it and John didn't have the big amateur grounding. It may be a bout of 2 halves with Eubank winning the first half and Saunders pulling it back, if Billy Jo is anything he's a 12 round boxer.

Jnr has a good variety of shots, but has shown a lack of dig, is defensively lax and doesn't graft for every second of the round. I do wonder about his mentality if things aren't going his way as well.

I hope he wins on saturday though.

Saunders last 7 fights give him a real advantage over Eubank. Pryce, Fletcher, Blackwell, Hall, O'Sullivan, Ryder, Blandamura is a great run, very few fighters in the country have something like that on their record. There's 70 rounds just in that run, he's been forced to dig deep at times, but he's won 4 titles along the way and the experience gained will be invaluable.

I can't wait to see if the bravado corner work continues in this fight - Eubank Snr simply staring at Jnr for the whole minute in-between rounds.

It could work well if Jnr is taking BJS apart. Imagine a bloodied BJS looking over at the antics and how that would spur him on.

And it could well work against them if Billy has the upper-hand, when Jnr might actually need some advice but the bravado takes hold of Snr and he still continues the routine as if to tell the fans that nothing is wrong.

I think its got us all intrigued this contest. Just hope all the fights go ahead, Wednesday evening now, looking good so far.

Good post. I was wondering if Eubank will come in to 'simply the best' ? It would mean little to younger fans but those who were around for his dads era would love it. Well, I would anyway :D

Eubank Jr has been coming out to Simply The Best in all his other fights hasnt he?

If Eubank Jr's name was "John Smith" and didnt have a former world champ as a dad,do people still see something in his record and performances that would make you believe he's special or even good enough to beat a seasoned unbeaten champ and amateur star like Saunders?

He's been championed since he turned pro,he's been matched very carefully,no former titlist's of any description in his CV,which im all the more surprised he's stepped up to the plate in this fight

TBF he has been impressing me more in his last few fights, and he is starting to look like he might be able to win a title of some sorts but if it wasnt for the baggage he brings,he'd be in the wilderness waiting for a shot at something

I agree but because of the name, on the BBC homepage, they have 4 headlines for sport, this morning even after the champions league last night, Eubank is in at number 3. Very rare boxer's get a mention on the front page when I check anyway. Never mind a guy with no titles before a fight. That surely, can only be good for the sport :TU:

The thing is, he is not his dad! No matter how much he imitates him, he will never be as good as him. On that programme years ago, he was a posh public schoolboy.

Some of the bravest, hardest, hungriest, most ruthless people I know are posh former public schoolboys. Wealth and privilege can make a person soft but it's not as prevalent as most people think. You don't have to wear sports kit to a wedding to be a hard man.

Absolutely, and on the flipside to that, Saunders mentioned in that prezzer the other day that he grew up on gypsy sites etc so wouldn't ever be scared or bottle it (or words to that effect) and I sat there thinking...so effing what?

two blokes, same weight, back ground irrelevant, lets see on the night.
