BAG-BAR TRAINING

How good of a training method do you think the BAG-BAR method is?.

Having a steel bar at waist height and jumping over it from side to side for 1-3 Minutes

Going over to Heavy Bag and hitting it as hard as you can for 1-3 Minutes.

Doing this for 30 Minutes?.

Good workout?.

That sounds like a challenge!.

It would be a good work out though, for a 3x2 minute fight?.

Waist height plyometrics would be absolute maximal effort. That's a high jump, and risk of injury as you progress would increase especially if you plan on doing this for 30 minutes.

You'd be better to start with some plyo and then rotate between the heavy bag and jump rope sprints or rowing.

Bar-Bag is a common training method in a lot of Pro-boxing gyms. You should do it in 3 minute rounds for at least as many rounds as you are training to fight for. 1 minute on the bar jumping over at a rhythm you can sustain for a minute then a high intensity minute on the bag then back on the bar for a minute. The second round you start on the bag then bar then bag and so on, the fitter you get the higher your work rate will be. Its good to train with a buddy with one on the bar whilst the other is on the bag and vice-versa. Always do at least one more round than the fight you are training for and go as hard as you can. Bar-bag is best done 2-3 days a week in the build up to a fight and the bar can be substituted with Burpee-jumps if you don't have a bar or are worried about your knees. You will get out what you put in, train hard fight easy.

My training regime for Amateur Boxing excluding Road Work


15 Minutes jumping Rope

NON-SPARRING DAYS....

200LBS Heavy Bag - Jump Bar - Kettle Bells - Burpees - 3 Minutes each until exhaustion
