Terrence Crawford at 140

How does he fare up a division? He's apparently vacating his titles at 135 to move up. He's a helluva fighter but I'm not certain how he does facing bigger guys. Guys like Garcia, Matthysse, Provo, Algieri, Broner, Herrera, Peterson. Way, way different league from lightweight. He did beat Danny in the amateurs so no reason he cant conquer 140 as well it will just be a helluva lot more difficult for him. Lampley seems to think he may be on Manny's radar soon. Now that would be super interesting.

It's a more competitive division that's for sure there are better fighters at 140. He'll be properly tested.

Crawford has been given the Ward treatment last two fights at home.
Ppl here busta nut when talking about him but I see nothing that shows him being a future star.
Yea sure in Omaha they go crazy for him but that's expected he's no flashy guy ala mayweather just a conventional skilled boxer so far being fed guys he's supposed to beat who are either limited, small or haven't fought in over a year.
What I do like about him is unlike Floyd he exchanges a bit and unlike Floyd he gets hit clean often.
At 140 against guys like Garcia and Lucas he can be in big trouble.

I think he'll do fine. 140 is pretty overrated(tho 135 is awful). Garcia just got his ears boxed off vs Herrera. Crawford is better than Herrera.

Jesse Vargas should be a good test

Agreed...I see Crawford outpointing Garcia. Also think he outboxes Algieri, Peterson and the overrated Broner.
I thougt Crawford-Beltron was a bit closer at 3-3 after six. But Crawford dominated the rest of the way. Crawford-Pacquiao would be very interesting!

Not watched last nights fight yet but based on what I've seen and especially Garcia against Herrera Crawford would give him fits.
Agreed on who mentioned Vargas though I like that fight.

Garcia is a good fighter and proven himself but if you have a good boxing brain and a good chin like Crawford seems to possess- i'd fancy Crawford to beat him.

I've not watched the fight yet but out of curiousity, did Crawford box the majority of the fight in the orthodox stance or as a southpaw?

Crawford will be fine at 140 he already has shown it beating Prescott on 3 days notice, and will continue to get better. Because he didn't win by KO, he will be compared to Rigo for his boring but dominating boxing style I suppose. He will mix it up and trade though as he showed with Gamboa. He will bring exciting fights if matched up with the right guy.

He is a TR fighter. His options are Vargas, Algieri, Provo and Pac. He beats the first three (unless he decides to trade with Provo) but loses to Pac if they meet within a year.

Why is he moving up? Has he even tried to unify?

He was @153 yesterday. Besides, Arum may be planning to match him against Pacquiao.

Boring!
Pacquiao should be fighting more proper welterweights, not all of Arum's blown up light welterweight and lightweight fighters.

That fight would certainly NOT be boring. 140 is where Pacquiao really belongs to size wise.

Pacquiao should drop to 140 lbs if he isn't going to fight any legit welterweights.
I have very little interest in a 147 lbs fight between Crawford and Pacquiao within the next year.

fergusg wrote:How on earth can a 140lb Top Rank & HBO fighter like Terence Crawford engage in fights against the following Al Haymon fighters: Danny Garcia, Lucas Matthysse, Lamont Peterson & Adrien Broner?
Crawford against other 140lb-ers would be meaningless, as he wouldn't have fought the very best.
Terence versus Manny... not going to happen whilst there's a remote possibility that the Filipino can fight Mayweather.
IF Manny and Floyd fight, how about TC vs Mikey Garcia, Provodnikov, Algieri, or better yet Jesse Vargas? All good tests to start building a solid foundation at 140, and without the headache of dealing with Haymon. Haymon is smart though - he will probably have Crawford in his stable soon.

He probably has trouble making 135

And Floyd should drop to 147 not hold on the 154 title and defend it against Maidana

I actually like seeing a division have a dominant champ and would have preferred he try unifying with Figueroa or Bey rather than moving up, but I understand why he's doing it. Money talks, after all.
Crawford/Vargas is definitely the fight to make.

Crawford will actually be bigger than most of the top light welterweights.

I don't really like weight jumping, especially when they just cherry-pick and then move up in weight again.
Guerrero is a 4 weight world champion. What's his big win?

What was Crawford's in-ring weight? I know HBO mentioned he was 6 or 7 pounds bigger than Beltran but I can't remember the actual numbers.

153 I think, so that puts him up there with some of the bigger fighters at 140 already. Look for those numbers to go up since he'll be cutting less. He'll be having a reach advantage as well. I don't see many at 140 giving him that much trouble.
