it depends how often you want to run, if its for a training regime then run 3-5 miles at night so your not running too far in low visibility and definitely wear reflective clothing.

if its just to keep fit, I'd recommend walking for an hour or more instead every day or every couple of days, if you've been at work all day your body will already be tired this will help relax and burn calories at a steady pace and not leave you with a restless night sleep.

When I was boxing, I would do all my roadwork at night.

I loved running at night time.

Apparently Evander Holyfield did all his roadwork at 2 or 3 am.

Personally I run straight after work, I'm rarely in the same place from one week to the next so I have the running stuff in the car, and I have a few routes that I know, I drive 5 10 mins to one of them and then I know what distance I'm doing. In winter of course thats in the dark, in summer its sweet as a nut, especially if you can get into a bit of woodland. Glorious.

use walkjogrun.com to plot out routes in advance.

im a professional boxer and do all my running at night, everyones different but running in the morning isn't for me, and I often find I keep the weight down running at night.

Just back in from a 9 miler, it's 2 minutes to midnight. Where I live, the daytime is far too hot to run and I don't get up early enough in the morning to go out then. I tend to wear bright colours and have a reflective, luminous yellow running backpack type thing. Looks like a bumbag that you strap across your back. Most of my running tend to be on the edge of fairly big roads so it's well lit.

Running at Night is the only way for me. Not many cars or people to get in the way plus I do my best road work at the end of the day.

I do. I don't run no more then 15 mins on an eviening. A short jog from my house around the park, then straight into a nice hot bath. Some people do theirs on a busy high street. I like it empty and quiet.

The air is much better to breathe very early in the morning before the traffic gets going... Run cross country in a park, golf course, or on a dirt trail... its much better than running on pavement... Run different courses if there's a few parks, lakes, or grassy areas to run on near you.. Measure your running distances on google maps if you can.. Run for 30 minutes and run 6 days a week.. Run easy and relaxed for 2 days and push harder on the 3rd day.. then easy for 2 days and run hard on a quarter mile track on the 6th day. The track is for more accurate distance.. Don't expect to improve every week.. Almost every month you'll run farther with less effort if you run consistently...

You might run 4 to 4.75 miles for a year or 2.. Work it up to 5 miles on your hard days.. If you can cover 5 miles in 30 minutes you can go a hard 12 rounds. Boxing mastery increases your endurance tremendously. You're missing fewer punches and getting hit less. That keeps you much fresher than if the opposite happens.
