Could Kell Brook Become a Dominant Champ?

The top WW fights this weekend got me thinking about how good Kell Brook might be. His main weakness has been his stamina, but he seemed strong enough in the final rounds against Porter. If his stamina issues are behind him, I don't see any glaring weaknesses. I'd back him against the likes of Alexander, Marquez, Guerrero, Maidana, possibly Bradley. Not so sure about Thurman as he's untested. With Manny and Floyd being close to the end of their careers, do you think Kell could blossom into a dominant champ?

My answer is no and at this time, i wouldn't back him to beat any of the fighters you have listed. They are all established world level fighters who have beaten better quality opponents consistently. Brooks big weapon in his early days was his power, watching him blast his way to owning the British title outright was great but the power doesn't seem to have came up with him.

I'd like to be proven wrong in the future but at this point in time, Alexander, Marquez, Guerrero, Maidana, Bradley would all claim the win against Brook.

I remain to be convinced that his leg hasn't got permanent damage that will see him struggle going forward.

His win over porter definitely puts him up there alongside the elite whereas before that he was in the group behind. I think he may lose one or two on the way but he now belongs in that group at the very least. They can all beat each other.

It has been quiet lately, and no mention of recovery / fitness etc.

I would say that before the injury - not likely.

After the injury - even less so.

Dominant champ, not so sure...up there with them all in that group I think so yes.

A lot of people are backing khan to beat Alexander this weekend and I think Kell would beat Khan, so with that in mind I think he at least deserves to be in that group...I know its all about styles etc but if he is fit I think he could give any of those names a good fight and pick up some wins along the way. Not sure if that's on the fence so to speak but that's my view :TU:

What I have heard is loads about Khan. Retirement fund maybe?

That is pure guesswork by the way, just throwing in out there....

Its a deep division with lots of talent. If he stays busy and keeps himself relevant he will have some more good wins at world level and I could definitely see him getting some good names on his ledger before he retires. Right now though, its hard to predict too much of anything after his injury. I'm assuming he will return at full strength/ fitness, but it seemed like a pretty awful injury to get and may well cause mobility issues down the line. It wouldn't shock me if he never returned to his best and spent 2015 trying to cash out with a big fight, but hopefully we see a fully fit and mobile Brook back in the ring soon. He's good for the division.

to be fair Porter was a hype job, granted Kell done well to beat him in a tight one but there's much better Welters out there

Porter was in the group behind, Brook beat him, so he's moved to the top of that group, but he needs to beat a top name to be considered amongst the elite of the division.

i think he can go on and dominate the division, why not. Carson Jones aside he has coped with ease at all levels so far. A lot depends on his leg injury but dominic and the gang would not put him in at the highest level if he was not 100%. There are sports scientists involved with Kell, if he gets the green light then its with their blessing.

Not sure rhino. If its 50/50 i cant see them turning down the £££££ even if it might lead to a barker/ Nicky cook type meltdown

If this turns out to be the case, it's a massive shame for British boxing as Kell's got as good of a chance as any Brits bar Froch and Khan to perform on the top stage.

One important factor in this is how does he do the weight ?? Not only that I've seen him on the TV since the stabbing and he has looked huge !

iF he is at 147 not too sure as its a deep weight and other guys will emerge. Has to get the Khan fight ASAP but next best is fighting Rios in America Kell would smash him and make a name for himself over there on HBO to set up another big fight.

Can't see the Khan fight happening in the first half of next year. Kell seems to be fighting sometime in March, Ramadan is in the middle of June, so Khan will have to fight before that, that leaves a 2 week window to make the fight in. If they can't get it on then, it will have to be later in the year, probably no earlier than October, or if they want it outdoors, it will have to be 2016 before the fight happens. There's also the possibility of the Mayweather fight for Khan and we don't know how well Brook has recovered from the stabbing.

I forget about Ramadan that could scupper it.

Also Kell will have a mandatory due soon and he only has to ask Jamie McDonnell about IBF mandatories. Just checked the final eliminator is next weekend neither are known as Top fighters and would be very wise to Get that out of the way in March fight then go for big fights in America later in the year if no Khan.

Classic boxrec. The Scottish trainer who told us that Porter (and Frankie Gavin) would beat Brook, now claims that Porter is a hype job!

Other posters put Alexander (who lost to Porter) a level above Brook.

Just need some Ass to claim "feigning injury" to cap it off.

I think Eddie is hoping for a Wembley date about June 13. Still seems a bit close to March 7 when Brook is supposed to be next out. And until he boxes, we won't know if he recovered properly.
