Back in 2007 I recall the UK having 7 world champions at one point. These being :-

Alex Arthur
Gavin Rees
Junior witter
Ricky hatton
Joe Calzaghe
Enzo maccarinelli
David haye

Does anyone envisage this golden period being surpassed in the coming years and who would you anticipate to hold the baubles?

I think we're about to hit a bit of a dark age tbh with you. We don't appear to have a lot of sure fire world level guys. Yes there are more titles than ever out there but even then I think we'll struggle with this current crop

Clinton Woods was world champion at the same time too. Really was a golden age, 8 world champions, 3 of them genuinely number 1 in the division, 55,000 watching Calzaghe beat Kessler in Cardiff, 50,000 going out to Vegas for Hatton-Mayweather. If we see something like that again then we'll be very lucky. Hopefully we'll see the benefits of that in a few years as the next generation of fighters come through that were inspired by the likes of Calzaghe and Hatton, hopefully it sets off another era like that one.

I knew there was on missing. Clinton too. It was an incredible year. I think it would take a lot of things falling into place for something similar anytime soon

He was upgraded to full champion because Guzman was a lazy bastard and wouldn't fight/make weight. An example of when interim titles work well, the Foster fight was effectively for the vacant title, should probably have been retrospectively upgraded.

I've just realised I care even less about world titles than I thought.

Instead I'm fantasising about a return to one world champion per divison. Wouldn't it be loverly.

In 2007 he was an interim champion and beating Foster is not anything to crow about at world level.

There hasn't been a 'golden era' since boxing was shunted off mainstream TV.

The world 'title' situation is a complete mess, until that is sorted out - there can be no 'golden era' because we don't know what is what.

Murray's whole career is based on that premise

Froch unfortunately on the verge of retirement.

Brook, Khan and Frampton genuinely world class.

If a fit David Haye returns, he could prove to still be world class.

AJ, Fury, Degale, Groves, C Smith, Campbell, Yafai, BJS, Selby, Butler, Kid all potentially world class IMO (some further on than others obviously).

Murray, Quigg, McDonnell, Macklin, Bellew, Gavin, Ola, Ryder, Rose, L Smith, S Smith, Mitchell, Crolla, Walsh, all solid, respectable pros with varying accomplishments so far.

A great domestic scene.

Plenty of decent amateurs coming through, especially Anthony Fowler.

Maybe not a golden age currently but I think British boxing is alive and well!
